My Secret Weight Loss Formula
My Secret Weapon
If you read my previous post you know that I found my magic weight loss motivation button. But how did I actually go about losing those 63 pounds? (Yes, I lost another pound..Woohoo!). I have one thing that really helped me a lot, but let’s get to that in a moment.
I eat pasta, chocolate, and even the occasional piece of apple pie. So how did I manage to lose 63 pounds while eating all the foods that I loved?
Record It!
For me one key was to record everything I ate. There are many wonderful apps out there that allow you to track your entire food/calorie intake. It is absolutely amazing how quickly calories add up! I was absolutely amazed at how many calories I had been consuming in a single day! No wonder I had gained so much weight.
I had already tried the different life changing diets like juicing, Keto, etc. I knew that I needed to do something that would last even after I had lost the weight that I wanted. I couldn’t cut out pizza, pasta, and chocolate forever. So I decided the best thing is to continue to eat of those foods I loved, just in smaller portions.
Robbing Mr McGregor's Garden
I did make sure I substituted one of my meals for a salad. I make the salads interesting by included some nuts, craisens, small amounts of cheese like goat cheese of Feta Cheese. I look for unique but low calorie salad dressings. There are some fantastic almost no calorie dressings out there! Making my salads different with unique ingredients really made me grow to love and actually look forward to my salad.
The Big Secret
One of the biggest things that this diet taught me is that I was often eating even though I was actually not really hungry. This “impulse” eating or whatever you want to call it was the hardest thing to overcome but I found a secret that really helped me over this challenge. What was it? GUM. Yes gum. So any time I felt the urge to eat something that was not part of the day’s planned calorie intake, I put a piece of gum in my mouth instead. This really helped a lot!
Plan It
One of the other things that really helped me was to plan out what I was eating a couple days in advance. This way I knew that I had the correct ingredients on hand to make whatever was on that day’s agenda.
My approach to my diet is a bit unique but it really worked for me. The great thing is I can see myself continuing to eat this way for the rest of my life. This way I can keep this weight off forever!
I hope my tips can help anyone else out there that may be struggling with weight loss like I was. My next post will be amount my very unique approach to exercise!
That sounds like a very good plan. You have to be a bit disciplined, but you can still eat the good things like pizza and chocolate. How many calories do you allow yourself per day?..and congrats to the next lost pound! :)
Thank you! I allow myself 1200 calories a day. If I do a lot of exercise I may allow myself a little more, but it is not often that I exceed that 1200 limit a day. It has been a long but fruitful journey, one that I am so thankful for every day.
1200 calories come together quickly if you eat indiscriminately. But with a bit of caution you can handle it well. You can really be proud of yourself!
