A diamond is one of the hardest and most precious natural substances found on Earth. It is made entirely of carbon atoms arranged in a crystal structure known as a diamond lattice. Diamonds are formed deep within the Earth's mantle under extreme heat and pressure over billions of years. They are brought closer to the Earth's surface through volcanic eruptions. Most natural diamonds are found in countries like South Africa, Russia, Canada, and Australia.
Besides being a symbol of love and wealth, diamonds are also used in industrial applications, such as cutting, grinding, and drilling, due to their hardness.
The value of a diamond is usually determined by the 4 Cs:
- Cut – how well the diamond is shaped.
- Color – the less color, the higher the value.
- Clarity – how free the diamond is from flaws.
- Carat – the weight or size of the diamond.
