Bee treatment starts up January 1st

The spring-treatment for my bees I startet at the 1st of January this year by medicating them with oxalic acid (ethanedioic acid).
This oxalic acid is known as oxalate and you will find it in any vegetable/herbal food like there is for example : peppermint, amaranth, spinach, cocoa, wheat bran, almonds, cashew, soja, hazelnut, parsly, coffee and so much more...)
In human bodies the oxalic acid is be built by our own metabolism.
To treat the bees against the varroa-mite I trickle oxalic acid with a syringe between the honeycombs inside the bee-hives.
The aim is to wet all bees with this lotion. The lotion contains a 10% shugar share which causes the bees to clean each other.
Through this behaviour the oxalic acid is distributed all in one in the bee-hive and reaches each bee.
Oxalic acid does not hurt any bee or has any negative impact to the hive.

At the 5th of January I controlled the mice grid I installed in front of the flight holes of each bee-hive.
These mice grids are to protect the bees during wintertime from beeing eaten by infiltrating dwarf-shrews.
Inside in front of the mice-grids are often dead bees after beeing treated with oxalic acid. These bees are not victims of the acid, they are the normal dying of the winter-bees (normaly a winterbee-life ends after 4 Weeks).
If the outside temperature reachs about 46,4 bees start making their cleaning flights.
That means they carry out all dead bees of the winter and all waste which accrued during wintertime.
Because of the grid the bees cannot carry out their dead, so I remove them by hand.
I keep the grids so dwarf-shrews have no chance to get in and attack the bees.

Die Frühjahrsbehandlung der Bienen begann in diesem Jahr am 1. Januar mit einer Oxalsäurebehandlung.
Oxalsäure ist als Oxalat in pflanzlicher Nahrung (Pfefferminze, Amaranth, Spinat, Kakao, Weizenkleie, Mandeln, Cashew, Soja, Haselnuss, Petersilie, Kaffe etc.) und bildet sich auch beim Menschen durch den Stoffwechsel im Körper.
Um die Bienen gegen die Varroa zu behandeln träufel ich die Oxalsäure mit einer Spritze gleichmässig zwischen die Waben in den Bienenkästen.
Ziel ist es, die Bienen mit der Lösung zu benetzen.
Die Lösung enthält einen 10 %igen Zuckeranteil, der bewirkt, dass die Bienen sich gegenseitig putzen.
Durch dieses Verhalten wird die Oxalsäure im gesamten Volk verteilt und erreicht jede Biene.
Oxalsäure schadet den Bienen nicht und hat keine negativen Auswirkungen.

Am 5. Januar habe ich die Mäusegitter vor den Fluglöchern überprüft.
Diese Gitter befestige ich zum Winter vor den Fluglöchern, weil Mäuse (speziell Zwergspitzmäuse) in die Bienenkästen eindringen im Winter, die Bienen fressen.
Innen vor den Gittern liegen, nach der Behandlung mit Oxalsäure (gegen die Varroamilbe) oft tote Bienen.
Normalerweise machen die Bienen am Jahresanfang so ab 8 Grad Temperatur aussen, einen Reinigungsflug.
Das heisst, sie tragen die toten Bienen und alles, was an Müll angefallen ist im Winter, heraus.
Da das Mäusegitter ein Heraustragen der Toten verhindert, reinige ich die Fluglöcher
und die Mäuse können trotzdem nicht eindringen.
