Colorful origami
Linking laughter to the feat, the smallest circus in the world, founded in 1992, is destined to become great.
A circus, what's the point? For the juggler and philosopher Nikolaus, it is a cultural gesture that goes beyond what is necessary. Like a perilous leap, the emergence of a useless place requires a lot of energy, commitment and strength of admiration. Born in Bagneux (92), the PPCM is an association of inhabitants of the city. The Construire agency, co-managed by the architects Patrick Bouchain and Loïc Julienne, designed a project that matches the ambitions of this circus school.
Under the marquee, a 13-meter-diameter track receives more than 300 spectators on demountable stands. In the four corners, alcoves offer individualized learning spaces. This track is associated with a room of residence, intended for the reception of professional companies. Structured by a spectacular timber framing with impeccable details, designed by the Companions of the Tour de France of united duties, the roof rises like a colored origami. The inclined panels are covered with a waterproofing membrane, and the vertical panels, of a wooden cladding. During construction, the construction site remained open. The first building was the baraque, a place of ephemeral life where everyone converged, offering conviviality and sharing. The smallest circus in the world reveals a great artistic will, inviting everyone to enjoy the show!
