Reverse Engineering Native Video: Forza

in #design5 years ago (edited)

For this particular post, I am going to be looking at a shot I saw from a short ad that was posted on Xbox's Twitter account. This particular video was advertising Forza Horizon 4 to celebrate the first day of summer. Much of the ad was showcasing content from the game, which mainly involved a ton of cars drag racing or cruising through open country sides with some happy music playing in the background. It's as pure of a showcase as it can get!

There is one particular shot though that I really liked from this video and there is a screenshot of it right here:

Right off the bat, we see a perfect example of the rule of thirds at work, with the Jeep being the major focal point of this shot's composition. It's easy on the eyes too! This helps play into the segment of this shot where this Jeep appears to be cruising down the lane, towards some unspecified finish line given that this is a racing game after all.

Next, the use of repetition with the bright green colors is pleasant to behold. This choice helps give the sense that perhaps this race has Jeep's sponsorship since the banners on each side of the lane match with the vehicle's color. Along with this, it helps play into the summer feeling of the clip with how much the sunlight accents the colors, giving this a warm feeling for the viewer and player. It's as smooth as waxed chrome!

One last thing that can be noted with this shot is the lines that it has. The Jeep is racing towards some goal and even when paused, the lines help give off the feeling of moving forward into a joyride or race. It also helps give focus on where the player should be going as well. Working alongside the rule of thirds, this shot captures that momentum perfectly!

This was a very fun clip to watch with this video! As someone that also hasn't played any of the Forza games, I give props to the attention to detail that fits within this short video. The game itself is pretty to look at, you have an easygoing, laid-back atmosphere that is appropriate for summer! It almost makes me want to get this game and experience this for myself!
