Desert Island Books Challenge
I found out about this thru @steevc
*Write about 5 (or more or less) books that you would take if you were going to be stuck alone on a desert island for a year. They could be some you have been wanting to read or just some that justify re-reading.
*Use the #desertislandbooks tag.
*Nominate some others to do the same if you like.
I nominate @joshpeck
1. Orthodox Study Bible
It's got all the extra books of the Bible in it so there's more to read on a desert island. The Old Testament is translated from the Septuagint which was translated a couple of centuries before Christ by 70 Jewish scholars into Greek. There's some interesting things in translation in Greek. (A lot of giants) It inspired me a lot when I wrote "Ezekiel & Meytu".
2. Dead Men's Secrets - Jonathan Gray
This book is interesting, it is about high tech ancient technologies according to myths and oral tradition, with the occasional artifact. I was captivated by this book as a kid, and it led me on to many others like it. This is one of the less spooky of the genre.
3. The Complete Poetry And Prose Of William Blake
William Blake is an interesting character, and there's a lot to talk about. I don't agree with everything he says, but he's fascinating, and it's a thick book so a lot to read on a desert island. In an upcoming book I'm working on there's a section on him.
4. Perelandra - C.S. Lewis
I love C.S. Lewis, a very lucid mind. This one is part of his science - fiction trilogy, featuring a green lady and the planet Venus. I chose it because there are a lot of desert islands in it.
5. The Apostolic Fathers
I chose this one mainly for the Shepherd of Hermas, which is like Khalil Gibran a bit but a fair few centuries earlier. It was discussed as being perhaps part of the New Testament when that was being made official, but then was decided it would be devotional literature and not canon. It is a different style to the gospels, letters and Revelation, and was written a bit later. The Bible would be much thicker with it inside.
Thanks for reading!
