I believe all of their efforts are to get themselves in the spotlight by grandstanding just like AOC did with her photos of her crying at a gate one wheels to a parking lot that she could have just walked into. I don't think any of them actually give a damn about this person, or even immigrants for that matter. The good news is though, people are not lining up to support this despite the media's constant barrage of BS about it.
