I had an amazing culinary journey in Zhaoqing! After a day spent exploring the Seven Star Crags,

we stumbled upon a local hidden gem, a longstanding joint reputed among the natives. Seeing the place packed with locals, we knew we were onto something fabulous!

Although we were informed about a wait-time of an hour, the allure of the authentic local cuisine had us determined to stay. And oh boy, did it deliver! Every dish was a delightful surprise, truly justifying the wait. If you're not in a hurry, it's well worth the wait!

Their signature dish, Stir-fried Fish Slices, at first glance, might remind you of Shunde's scoop. But it's a unique flavor adventure in itself. The fish, fried to just the right degree of doneness, was incredibly thin, with the skin retaining a crispy texture which was a treat to the palate. The hint of salt-baked powder as a condiment, coupled with sour jiaozi on top for the perfect balance and fried doll noodles at the bottom, created a myriad of flavors and texture! It was undeniably delicious - the kind of dish you would eat plate after plate. Between the two of us, we managed to finish a large portion!

The Zhajizhi Chicken with Wampee was a delightful variant from the standard Zhajizhi Chicken, enriched by the presence of the unique aromatic and sweetness of the Wampee fruit. Definitely worth a try if you've never had it elsewhere!

The Sweet and Sour Pork lived up to its name with its pleasant sweetness. It was neither overly sweet nor too sour, which suited my taste perfectly.

All in all, the two of us gobbled down three dishes - a testament to our gastronomic stamina as much as the quality of the food! Though it was a simple restaurant ambiance, the value for money was excellent, especially if you come with a larger group.

The service was also commendable. They repeated several times at the beginning that the service might be slow and they were okay with us choosing to leave. I appreciated their honesty more than their eagerness to make a sale.
