Decenternet: The Internet You Want vs The Internet You Have

The internet has come a long way in a short time. From message boards and encrypted chats, jargon-like lines of code only a select few understood, to the simple, user-friendly platform we have all come to love and depend on today.
As an African technophile it fills me with joy whenever I see a young toddler learning to type with his mini computer or older citizen being able to use advanced apps without help.
The internet is not only a bridge between nations and cultures, it also serves as a source of hope to many over here.
Locating career prospects, good schools, opportunities for a better life, research material, everything from finding delicious food recipes right down to finding your soul mate can be done with the internet these days.

But there is a silent threat lurking in the shadows.
You see while many people access the internet for business, schools and entertainment, they are unaware of the activities that take place behind the scenes. Imbued in those very web pages you visit are cookies, crawlers, scripts that save and store your information to different databases. Everything you type and upload is being recorded.
While many sites will deny this, many of them are culpable.
Its human nature to exploit resources for profit. And when there is a global repository of information that is much sought after by governments and corporations you can be sure that greed is bound to set in.

Government Regulation

In March 2018, news of Facebook involved in data mining scandal spread like wildfire. Apparently this information was used by political aspirants to push manipulative ads to subliminally control the mindsets of the population and affect their decisions in the elections that followed.
This led to a global outrage with many users deactivating their accounts. Thankfully Facebook Owner Mark Zuckerberg boldly admitted the offense and offered methods to disable user content being backed up to Facebook servers.
Even tech giants Google openly catalogue user input.
Have you ever done a Google search on a particular gadget like a phone or appliance, and when browsing on a totally different site you see images of that phone, it's price and perhaps even a vendor? Now you know why.

Your data input is YOUR private business

But why is user data recorded? Many reasons depending on who you ask.
Research, faster results, "streamlining of your browsing experience", or perhaps just to be able to categorise users based on religion, sexual orientation, political views, income level and other societal subdivisions.

There is also the issue of online censoring, governments blocking internet access to certain regions, telecommunication companies throttling data speeds to get you to pay for "premium speed" packages, selective access to certain websites, the list goes on.

ISPs throttling speed

By now you are probably thinking "This is not what I wanted. I just wanted to browse the internet and be entertained".
So does this mean you should disconnect your devices and adopt the life of a hermit? No.
The thing about technology is that it is constantly evolving. As governments and corporations are trying to spy on you and control your access, there are dedicated professionals who are working hard to make you to have unhindered and unregulated freedom on the internet.

It all started with Bitcoin. Yes, Bitcoin. Many people ignorantly know Bitcoin only for the monetary value of the cryptocurrency but are oblivious to the futuristic underlying technology that sustains it. The Blockchain.

Blockchain connects the world

A blockchain is a digitized, decentralized, public ledger of all cryptocurrency transactions.

While it was originally designed as an accounting tool for Bitcoin, the utility of the blockchain was soon recognised and it is now being applied in every field that requires immutable recording from Entertainment to Medicine.

It is on this premise that I introduce you to the future of freedom on the internet, Decenternet.

What Is Decenternet?

Decenternet(or Dnet for short) is a hyper-speed peer-to-peer, distributed internet solution platform.

Let's look at their introduction video

The key element here is the Peer-to-peer attribute. What it simply means is that users can share data/internet with each other and not have to go through a centralised body(government or ISP).

The Decenternet ecosystem is totally independent and boasts a plethora of solid features.

  • SCALABILITY
This is very very important for any serious blockchain. For those new to cryptocurrency, scalability refers to the speed of the network. Earlier built blockchains didn't plan very well for large transactions and are now stuck being slow and requiring huge transfer fees for quick processing. Decenternet is built to process high traffic of requests via p2p channels preventing any downtime.
  • NATIVE OS
The Decenternet platform comes with its custom operating system called Anuvys. Anuvys is an open-source Linux-based operating system designed to guarantee unfettered and unmonitored access to the internet.
  • NATIVE BROWSER AND SEARCH ENGINE
Decenternet will be accessible and easily navigated through using its custom browser Osiris using its engine called Liberty. Liberty will function to bring desired results according to relevance rather than paid ads or influenced results. Osiris will also give access to both traditional web and Dnet web.
  • HERMES MOBILE OS
Smartphone users are not left out as Decenternet has also developed a swift and compactible OS that can be loaded on smart devices.
  • BLOCKTUBE
Blocktube is a dynamic p2p Video Media Hub that belongs to the people. It is a Decentralized upgrade to what YouTube originally was before the systematic content restrictions.
  • SPYCE TOKEN
The Decenternet ecosystem is powered by its custom SPYCE tokens. This token will be produced using a new mining system( Proof of Reliability which does not rely on specialized equipment or heavy electricity consumption) and serve as rewards for users who act as nodes and perform other tasks on the blockchain.

Decenternet Cares For The Downtrodden

In accordance with its ethics and drive to rid the world of poverty and unreasonable regulations, Decenternet will be setting aside a portion of its generated coins based on registered Caracas Citizens till 2025. This accumulated treasury will then be donated. Talk about a big heart!
This is referred to in their whitepaper as Project Liberati.

Conclusion

The Decenternet project is an ethically and technologically backed project. Ethical in the sense of restoring the rights of the general public and technologically sound because of its capable team. This project has also been consigned by ARPANET. If the pioneers of the internet give you props, then you are surely doing something right.

I will be posting more blogs on Dnet as there is just so much it offers so stay tuned.
If you can't wait, feel free to visit their social media channels and interact with the very responsive team.

Great Title @ulqu3. It attracted me to read the post. Haha! You have done justice to both the parties. Current Internet vs The Internet Of The Future. Cheers!

Thanks for passing by friend. This project really has a lot to offer. If they can even deliver half of their objectives, it will be wonderful.
