Data Selfie attempts to log similar data about you so that you can see what Facebook sees.
The tool explores our relationship to the online data we leave behind as a result of media consumption and social networks - the information you share consciously and unconsciously.

The intention with this project is to be totally transparent. Data Selfie will never use your data for research purposes or for commercial purposes. It will not store it in a data base. Your data is stored locally on your own computer. Data Selfie pass only the necessary data through servers to the APIs - without your personal information such as name, gender, etc. So, since there is no record of it, no personally identifiable information will be sent anywhere.
The Data Selfie purpose is to create awareness among internet users of the value they generate consciously and unconsciously for online services through the commercial exploitation of their personal information. In particular, Data Selfie provides Facebook users with:
1- The kind of data Facebook could be tracking about them.
2- The kind of personality insights Facebook could be generating on them by using machine learning algorithms.
Data Selfie has been designed as an open source, free tool that aims to create awareness in society about the erosion of privacy.

When you install the Data Selfie Chrome Extension, it will run in the background as you use Facebook on your desktop.
Data Selfie will record your active and passive activity. The extension will record: clicks on likes in your newsfeed, clicks on newsfeed links to external sites, duration spent on different posts and the specifics of those posts (authors, images and text) in your newsfeed, anything you type, and time spent on Facebook overall.
The more you use Facebook the more data is recorded. You can look at the Data Selfie dashboard and get a sense of what Facebook could know about your personality.
Data Selfie will provide the following information:
An aggregated visual overview of your active and passive activity on facebook.com. This includes clicks on likes in your newsfeed, clicks on newsfeed links to external sites, duration spent on different posts and the specifics of those posts (authors, images and text) in your newsfeed, anything you type, time spent on Facebook overall. This information is stored locally in your browser’s directory on your hard drive.
