A lost dancer in New York City
Growing up, life wasn't easy. - But who's is?
From a low income suburban white neighborhood to sleeping on benches on the streets of New York City, life has been an adventure that teaches me everyday.
I've always been one of those strange kids, friendly, but to myself. My childhood was mostly spent avoiding my abusive stepfather, taking care of my triplet baby brothers, skipping school to avoid the ongoing numbness of my life, and finding the secrets to life absurdly along the way.
Secrets of life you say?!
Mastering anything in one's life will reveal many secrets beyond what anyone could teach or tell you.
Mastery comes from repeated practice and understanding of a particular skill.
Generally speaking, someone who commits 10,000 hours or practice to a specific task would be considered a Master of it.
So if you wanted to master a skill in 10 years, it would take you approx. 2 hrs 45 mins of training Everyday for 10 years straight to become a master.
That i s a lot of training.
This is why most pro dancers take 8-15 years to become professional.
If you want to be pro in 8 years, you'll be pushing 30-40 hours a week training.
There are 2 sides to mastery though, Mental & Physical.
In dance these are both equal, and the mental is often overlooked.
This is where i come in. I've taught thousands of students, performed in hundreds of shows, made hundreds of dance videos, and have spend a lot of time with top tier dancers and innovators to get a unique perspective on the dance community and it's skill.
Until next time - peace!
Dancers seldom gets the recognition they deserve for their hours of dedication, pain and suffering. They have a mental will power which never allows them to give up and constantly drives them to practice harder to improve their technique . The audience only see the beautiful end product which sweeps them off their feet. Would love to hear more from you.
Thank you! I agree. More to come!
