DISCUSSION:

The major focus of this passage is the Bride, the Church of Christ, the believers. The beauty of the Bride in this vision is profound (v. 11). What do you also note concerning the structure (v. 12)? Here we get a description of the relationship between the Church and Christ. Paul also alludes to this relationship in his letter to the Ephesians (Ephesians 5: 26-27). As you consider your local congregation, is it as beautiful and firm as depicted in this passage? If not, what can you do to remedy the situation?

What was the purpose of this vision to John? To understand the purpose of the vision, we need to take note of the structure of the city built by God (v. 2) and the great and meticulous preparations of the Bride for the marriage feast. The Scripture calls the believer "God's building" (1 Corinthians 3:9). The vision of the beautiful city shows what the Church shall be in the age to come and what in our current experience, God is making of us. We also note that God will be in the midst of the city and hence, there is no need of a temple (v. 22).

There is need to understand who you are as a believer and to maintain a high standard in your life as a bride of the Lamb for "Nothing impure will enter the city" (v. 27).
