Cycling Californa, evening ride

in #cycling6 years ago

This is my evening ride after doing a few chores during the day. Like installing a new mtb front tire on my FS bike. You really never know how tight they are until you actually start the install, some go on easy, some are so tight that you'll start sweating and may break a few tire levers.

I past one of my favorite lakes, Vasona this evening.

The ride was almost 19 miles and a fairly flat 400 ft of climbing.

I also past what is called the percolation ponds in Campbell. Water runs down from Lexington Reservoir which fills up the percolation ponds. These in turn fill underground reservoirs which are used for drinking water in this area of Santa Clara county.

Also feeding the bay area with water is the aqueduct from the hetch hetchy reservoir near Yosemite. As long as there is snow in the sierras, California should have water to drink and irrigate the vast farming fields.

You always read about California's water problems, but it is not that bad?

There have been some years where California has only 50%-60% of the average rainfall. When they are consecutive years, California goes into a drought. There is a very large population in California so the use for fresh water is quite a bit.

I think California can produce more reservoirs to collect the water, but environmentalists would definitely protest. That is why nothing gets done, that and California would increase taxes to pay for them and no one would want a tax increase.

The catch 22 of water. Thanks for the answer.
