New IoT Botnet Storm Coming

in #cybersecurity7 years ago (edited)

You might have read reports over the last few days of a new rapid growing IoT botnet named IoT_reaper (some sources are calling this IoTroop). This new botnet was first spotted in Sep by researchers. It targets vulnerabilities in various IoT devices and adds affected devices to the botnet. Researchers are warning that this threat could be much larger than the Mirai IoT botnet.

IoT_reaper malware currently includes exploits for nine previously disclosed vulnerabilities in IoT devices from following manufactures:
• Dlink (routers)
• Netgear (routers)
• Linksys (routers)
• Goahead (cameras)
• JAWS (cameras)
• AVTECH (cameras)
• Vacron (NVR)
If you use any of the above devices, it is recommended that you check to see if the most current security updates have been applied.
