Check your change! (2009 Nickels)
In early 2009 The United States Mint halted production of circulating Jefferson nickels due to the recession and in total only minted about 86 million coins for the entire year, which was the lowest number since 1955. Due to these low mintage numbers and the scarcity of the coin, buyers have started to pay high premiums for even circulated, non proof, 2009-P and 2009-D coins. As of today, we have been seeing buyers on ebay pay 40x face value for these coins!! Time to look in your jars and pockets and make sure you put these nickels to the side.
I have not been able to find the 2009 nickels. People are snatching them up
It is tough but I recently found 3 2009-D nickels in my last box. Was hoping to get some war nickels or buffalos as well, but no such luck.
I buy junk silver. Do you?
I haven't yet, but its prolly not a bad idea! I've just been trying to go the cheap route and find old coins that contain some silver.
Thanks for the information. Will check my change. 86 million is still a good size mintage.
