What is a "Curator"??!

The term "Curator" is used a thousand times to describe how Steemit works but I have not been able to find any definition or explanation of what it means on this site, and I can't quite figure it out by the context either. Is the Steemit site that hosts all the content the Curator? Is it third party servers or websites that are linked? Is it the commentators or voters? I would recommend definitions in the FAQ's.

I take it the "Creators" are those that have authored a post, such as this...

You can consider this an example and opportunity of how important the comments are relative to the post... :)
