Some info about OCD and an incentive for manual curators

in #curation7 years ago

Hey everyone, if you read my post yesterday about the differences between manual and automatic curation. I wanted to follow up on it a bit more today with an offer for manual curators to increase their potential rewards. First off, since Operation Curation Delegation strives for transparency I wanted to address how it operates for those not aware.

Operation Curation Delegation

This is a curation project that focuses on authors and posts that are somewhat new and underrated on the platform. We have currently a team of 25 active curators looking for quality posts daily on the platform. Some focus on curating posts in different subjects, some for posts in their native languages but they all strive to look for authors that may have gotten missed by curators after having actively posted on the platform for quite some time.

The curators also ask the authors for permission to be featured in the daily compilation post that promotes their content to its followers and supports them with votes through the @ocd account and my own. More about this later in the post.

The curation process is simple, they find a post that seems to be original and undervalued, they link it in a channel on discord and there all the curators vote between eachother which of the 10-15 posts they should include in the compilation post. Although it may seem simple, its not always as many things can happen in the process; posts could turn out to be plagiarised, curated by other big users or curation projects before they make the compilation post and some waiting around to get a positive reply if they can promote it.

To incentivize the curators to do a good job and take time out of their day to find these posts, they get a share of the post rewards from the compilation posts. We give out SBD for the authors of those posts which change once every week, for all curators that have nominated a post, all posts that made it into the compilation post and the SteemPower earned through those posts remains with the account and the curators earn a stake of it depending on their activity.
As with many other users and investors on the platform, they also believe in the growth of Steem and are vested that way. If the curators at some point in time want to leave the project or have to, the account will power down SP relative to their stake and send it to them.

The curators make extra rewards through the compilation posts, but the authors that get nominated make about 2x more rewards on their posts. I vote around 10% per nomination in the compilation posts and nominations receive between 15-25% votes. The exact % may often depend on rewards the post has already gained and the average price of Steem but many days I spend over 60% of my daily voting power on @ocd.

My own share of the @ocd account is 25% from the post rewards, and half of the curation rewards the account makes. This has been discussed at an early stage with all the curators that joined and is based on the Steem Power I delegate to the curators to increase their curation rewards and the fact that most posts I spend my daily voting power on have already been curated by @ocd and its curators which means I make the least possible curation rewards off those posts. There are also some other factors in, as some of you know I have a curation trail which should increase my curation rewards, but seeing as most nominations are often a day old this means that many of my followers won't vote on them as they have set it up to only vote on posts that are new. Anyway, this brings me now to the second part of the post, where I want to encourage manual curators to both increase their curation rewards and vote on posts that are selected by our curators and are most of the time by unique authors.

Extra Curation Rewards

Without getting too much into the details of how curation works but encouraging newcomers that they can also earn some more rewards with their smaller stake, here is my open offer to them.

In case you haven't followed @ocd yet, you should go right ahead and do that. Comparing this curation project to others, one of the most known one being @curie is that here you get a chance to vote on the nominations before the bigger votes come in, thus giving you more rewards in return.

We post daily compilation posts, one being of english posts, another of many languages and currently resteeming 3 per day which use the #ocd-resteem tag. We are slowly but steadily growing by curators and posts we curate.

What's in it for me by letting the curators front-run me? Well, since I try and vote posts to a certain reward, this could mean that the more rewards those nominations have made before my vote is cast on them, the less % I might need to vote on them, thus giving me room for more daily votes to cast on other authors. This of course depends on the price of Steem and some other factors, but you still get a chance to increase your curation rewards knowing you are voting on undervalued posts from unique authors that you might miss when browsing Steemit like you do today.

I generally vote on the compilation posts at the 30 minute mark or the next day depending on my sleeping rhythm and when that weeks author posts them. The nominations from that post are generally voted on a day after which gives readers and manual curators lots of room to get their votes in on time on posts they like.

Since autovotes are popular here because they focus on the same authors thus give increased curation rewards to their users, this might be one of the few ways manual curators can assure themselves that they will get more curation rewards from their votes. Autovoters won't be able to follow the nominations since most of the daily authors are unique.

How else can you help the project without manually curating

If you are an investor or inactive user who appreciates what @ocd does and want to assist them in growing and curating even more authors. What you can do is:

  • put our daily compilation posts on an autovote service, knowing the rewards will be shared among many curators that work for the project
  • delegate directly either to me, the @ocd account or one of our curators

If you want to talk details on delegations to assist the account, feel free to contact me on steemit.chat or discord under the same username.

Thanks for reading!

There will be a new post coming up soon looking for a few more english curators for the project and another two for a language we haven't included in the international curation team yet.

If you have any questions or comments, you know where to post them. :)

This is brilliant @acidyo, i have followed @ocd and will lool to manyally curate on there. This post was very helpful. I hope, as an author, my posts end up on the @ocd top 10-15. @acidyo you are helping me understand steemit very well. Thank

It's great that you are doing this and spreading rewards to more users who might have got missed and who deserve the rewards.

estoy deacuerdo los usuarios originales merecen mas recompensa

What servers are you active in on discord? I appreciate all the things that you do for minnows- your curation through OCD and through twitch are a great way for authors who work hard on their posts to increase their rewards. This brings more users to steemit, and decreases the plagiarized and spam posts. Thank you for all that you do for the community!

Our discord server is for curators of the project only for now.

Thanks for the kind words! :)

I started voting a few weeks ago on ocd resteems when i see them. I don't have a chance to read them all however. For me, this is less about curation reward and more about supporting and incentivising quality content providers as I am essentially guaranteed that the post will fit my own criteria as value adding to the platform.

Seriously though, literally anyone has 11 opportunities a day (ocd post plus nominations) to front run a whale with guaranteed easy curation rewards.

Looks promising. I am following @ocd and will try to assist when I have enough SP.

That is a great initiative taken guys and no wonder new users will find it useful and will be helped and will move forward in the process.
Thank you People for the OCD :)

@OCD is the best curation site.

It is great that you guys are giving your time for the newcomers and you are helping the steemit community grow. I'll definitely help as much as I can.

Hi @acidyo, Thanks for the guideline and writing this post. What's the link for your discordapp channel?
