Kanjeng Ratu Roro Kidul or often known as Nyi Roro Kidul is a goddess of the famous Javanese fairy tale as Queen of South Beach, (Pelabuhan Ratu). Once upon King Siliwangi's reign ruled in the Pajajaran Kingdom, he had a beautiful queen and a number of 7 concubines. Once the empress gave birth to a beautiful daughter too, even beyond the beauty of his mother. He is named Princess Lara Kadita which means Putri Nan Cantik Jelita.

The kindness and beauty of Princess Kadita incites the envy of the concubines who are afraid of being left out from the presence of Prabu Siliwangi. They conspire to destroy the life of Princess Lara Kadita and her mother. Both are used up to suffer severe skin pain all over his body. Under the influence of the witches of the concubines, King Siliwangi drove them out of the palace because they feared that they would bring disaster to the kingdom.

In this condition, Princess Lara Kadita and her mother went aimlessly. Told, the queen killed in the odyssey, while Princess Lara Kadita continue to walk south until finally arrived on a steep hill on Karanghawu Beach. Exhausted, Princess Lara Kadita rested and fell asleep. In his sleep he dreamed of meeting the "holy man" who advised the princess to purify himself by plunging into the sea to get healed, restoring his beauty, as well as gaining the magic power to avenge the suffering he experienced.

When awakened, without a doubt Princess Lara Kadita jumped off a steep cliff into the center of the waves roll, and sank to the bottom of the South Sea. His dream became a reality. Besides recovering and returning beautiful, he also gained supernatural powers and immortality. However, the princess must remain in the South Sea. Since then she is referred to as Nyi Loro Kidul (which means loro = suffering, south = south), or the Queen of the Ruler of the South Sea.
