RE: I am Norwegian, half-blooded if you must get into details..
Wow what a post. I think alot about this actually. My wife is like you in the countries she visits. They think she is Polish , Spanish, Italian. I get the whole "Where are you really from?" . It happens alot in Ireland when the skin is darker etc. When I was in Germany alot of Turkish immigrant's worked with myself and they were German born and bred. You can see it in their football team. Gotze , Ozil. German when they win , Turkish when they lose. It's good to be different though. It's great to be a different colour hair, skin to everyone else in a town or city. You stand out.It has it's perks. Easy to get a boyfriend or girlfriend when you are not the same as everyone else.
Funny you were to say that, because both visiting Ireland and living in UK people would often mistake me for being Irish! Not that I would mind being Irish, but yeah, you completely get what I am trying to address with your example "German when they win , Turkish when they lose."
And yes, you are indeed correct - I don't really mind being different and it does have its perks, but man it would be nice to skip the scrutiny for once, and feel like I am home when I'm at home.
