🗞 Ripple Hires Ex-HSBC, CIT Exec as General Counsel After Five-Month Hiatus
Blockchain payments network Ripple announced it had hired a former HSBC general counsel to oversee its legal services and compliance, in a press release Jan. 30.
Ripple, which has not had a general counsel of its own since September last year, will draw on Stuart Alderoty’s expertise as it navigates the legal territory associated with its operations, including those involving associated cryptocurrency XRP.
The appointment comes at a crucial time for Ripple, which is facing a consolidated consumer lawsuit over XRP’s performance.
“He brings a level of experience and expertise that will be vital in supporting not only Ripple’s growth but growth of the overall industry.”
🗞 Indian Government Invites Law Firm to Present Suggestions for Crypto Regulation
The Indian government has invited lawyers from Nishith Desai Associates to present their suggestions for the country’s crypto regulation. This is in response to the firm’s submission of a proposed regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies. The suggestions include avoiding prohibition, taking a balanced approach, options for licensing, and self-regulation for the industry.
"Our submission was responded to by the Finance Ministry which was kind enough to invite us to present our suggestions. The presentation mainly consisted of us explaining the suggestions made in the paper … They listened to our proposals with interest."
🗞 A Bitcoin-Backed Stablecoin Has Launched on the Ethereum Blockchain
A new token backed one-to-one with bitcoin is now live on the ethereum blockchain.
“Wrapped BTC” (WBTC) officially launched its ERC-20 token Wednesday evening. The project was first unveiled in October as a joint initiative between decentralized exchange startups Kyber Network and Republic Protocol, as well as cryptocurrency custody company BitGo.
As stated on the project’s website, the aim of WBTC is to bring “greater liquidity to the ethereum ecosystem including decentralized exchanges and financial applications.”
🗞 SWIFT Chief Announces Trial DLT Integration With R3
SWIFT, the global banking payments network, is to begin testing its GPI payments standard through R3’s Corda platform.
Speaking on stage at the Paris Fintech Forum this morning, SWIFT CEO Gottfried Leibbrandt said: “Later today we are announcing an integration with R3.”
In a follow-up announcement, the firm explained that the “integration” will be a trial that will connect SWIFT’s GPI Link gateway with R3’s Corda platform to monitor payment flows and support application programming interfaces (APIs), as well as SWIFT and ISO standards.
🗞 IOTA: Almost All Tokens From $11 Million Hack Have Been Found
Almost all of roughly $11 million-worth of iota tokens alleged to have been stolen by an individual from Oxford, UK, have been found.
IOTA co-founder and board co-chairman Dominik Schiener told Reuters that the funds are currently being held as evidence in a police investigation.
As reported on Jan. 24, a Europol-coordinated effort involving British and German law enforcement agencies arrested a 36-year old man suspected of stealing $11.4 million in iota from at least 85 victims worldwide since last January.

We had a very shy UP today after the big drops of the last days. We are going in the direction of the resistance line of 0.31$ but even if we touch it, I don't think we will break it immediatly because we don't have the needed volatility. Sol let's see the reaction of the market after a touch at 0.31$.

At least some government are getting more reason trying to regulate instead of ban cryptos.

Oh! I just learned about WBTC and the IOTA hack. I never got news of this hack. How I wish, that stolen from Cryptopia exchange can be retrieved as well.

I will admit that I just found this on the steem bounty site but if you put out updates like this I will have to check them out. Wrapped BTC is a big move for ERC20 tokens to be able to trade to BTC easier. Good stuff man.
