Breeding a CryptoKitty Clone
So I had this CryptoKitty I called Goldistripes that I bought in the marketplace because I thought he looked nice.
Say hello to Goldistripes.
While browsing the marketplace the other day, I stumbled across this older kitty that looked identical to my kitty! That's what breeders called a "pixel clone".
If you're up for a bit of science (if not skip this paragraph), this is different to a "DNA clone". Pixel clones have the same phenotype so they look the same even though their genes are different, whereas DNA clones have the same genotype. If you're wondering how digital cats can have genes, well, let's just say for now that every CryptoKitty has a string of 63 variable 'genes' which are either a letter or a number. More than that, the details are beyond the scope of this post sorry.
Anyway, turned out, it was for sale! Having checked, they were not DNA clones. The kitty in the market did not have what I called the 'bird gene'.
Time for a bit more science: Two key genes are required to produce a "DuCat", a "Fancy" kitty which looks like a bird. If one of those genes is present but the kitty is not a DuCat, I say that cat has the bird gene. My original Goldistripes had inherited the bird gene from one parent.
Say hi to the second cat.
So I bought it, named it Goldistrips' Twin, and crossed it with Goldistripes. To my amazement, their offspring looked identical again! Say hello to Goldistripes III.
If you would like a kitty that looks like Goldistripes, Goldistripes' Twin, or Goldistripes III, please reply to let me know and I'll see if I can breed another one for you.
The End
So you know this is the end, here’s a simple puzzle:
Which way is the school swimming?

~~~Boring Details~~~
The information and opinions contained in this post are entirely my own thoughts but of course they may be based upon what I’ve heard others say through the years.
Image credit for the CryptoKitties of course goes to CryptoKitties.co but I understand that I am allowed to share the image of my own digital pets.
According to the best of my knowledge, I’m allowed to use this under fair use laws anyway.
The fish image I created and uploaded myself.
I'm still trying to figure out the genetics part, it seems like a lot of research is needed to get an idea of how to do controlled breeding!
That may depend on how specific you wish to be and how much effort you're willing to put into it. Have you tried using https://cryptokittydex.com for genetics research? With it, I worked out pretty quickly that a chicken requires a 9 on its first gene (i.e. the one on the far right) and a 7 on its 40th gene.
I have taken a look yes and I'm also part of the discord where there is gene discussion so people are passing out the info a little more freely thankfully!
