Top 10 Cryptocurrency Altcoins for a 2018 HODL
Coins to buy and hold for 2018 that aren't pumped. Scroll down for the list, but feel free to read through.
The real purpose of this post is to begin documenting my ideas on an immutable blockchain. I joined the steemit community, but never actually used it, so here's to greater learning. Don't mind the blank profile pic.
TLDR: Diversification is for those who don't know what they're doing. Scroll to the bottom if you want a list of potential high risk high growth cryptos to buy and hold for 2018. Though there are other potential ones, these are restricted to ones you can access on Bittrex and Binance. If you're new to cryptocurrencies and can't set up an account with those two since they recently stopped accepting new accounts, majority of the coins are on Etherdelta. I also suggest you dollar cost average them, but you can go all in if you are prone to taking high risks. A post on each one will follow in the coming weeks.
If you are a tiny minnow in a sea full of whales in the cryptoverse, it is often difficult to decide which coin to invest in. Please note that I said invest, not trade. You may have heard that it's good to diversify, but diversification was invented for large portfolio managers who wish to remove the risk of any particular asset from destroying their portfolio. What diversification aims to achieve is have the only risk in the portfolio be systemic risk or market risk, which is un-diversifiable.
I realize that I may have lost you already and it's only the beginning of the post. The bottom line is this: if you have a large amount of capital, diversify. If you don't, pick a few projects/assets you highly believe in and will only HODL (Hold On for Dear Life) even if the market tanks and it looses 70% of it's value because in that scenario you will only take your available funds to buy even more of the asset.
With that said, here are ten projects with the potential for incredible gains in the cryptoverse. Yes, I like to use the word cryptoverse; it's so much better than saying cryptocurrencies because it captures both currencies, tokens, and anything else related to the infant blockchain space. Also note that these projects are nowhere near the top 100 list by market cap.
Take a look at these projects, and depending on your confidence level, concentrate your portfolio. Again, this suggestion is only for those who cannot afford to have money invested in too many projects. It does you no real good if you only have $100 to invest, you split it up into 10 projects at $10 each, and the one you believe in the most increases 3x. If all of the other nine neither gain nor lose money, then your initial $100 is now worth $120 ($10 * 3 + $90 = $120). If on the other hand you had placed all your eggs in one basket, your $100 would be $300. And if you placed it in two equal baskets with $50 each, the one you believe in most goes 3x and the second one loses all it's value, your $100 would be $150 ($50 * 3 = $150).
Again, this type of concentration is only for those with little to put into the market. As is often said, only invest what you can afford to lose. I'm only describing what I would do in this situation. Feel free to do as you wish. Your small investment could go to zero, but again I will emphasize the word investment, not trading. With that being said, here's the list. I'll follow up in the next few weeks with a detailed post on each project.

I agree that diversification is for those who do not know what they are doing, or those who have a lot of money to play with. I just wrote about Warren Buffett's wisdom on investing recently and while I was doing my research on him I found out that he is not a great fan of diversification. I think his mindset is that if you are investing in a lot of different things then you are doing so blindly, because most people don't have the time to really dive deep into many different cryptos/financial assets.
Anyways, I followed you because I found this to be really good information and I hope you will post more in the future!
Great share. I liked it.
