Ledger Nano S news: Desktop all-in-one application on july 9th & Monero now supported 👍
There's news on the Ledger Nano S front: The all-in-one desktop application is coming on july 9th, and Monero (XMR) can finally be stored on the device through the CLI interface.
DESKTOP APPLICATION
It has been known that Ledger has been working on a desktop application for some time now, but after many months we're all still waiting on it. Fortunately Ledger released some news and announced a release date for the much anticipated all-in-one desktop wallet application: July 9th.(source: Twitter)
The new desktop application is highly anticipated because it finally will offer an all-in-one solution for all the wallets on the device. Right now the cryptocurrencies stored on the device need to be accessed through individual applications, but the new desktop app will combine all cryptocurrencies and make them accessible through a single app.
Ledger released some pictures of the new all-in-one app a few months ago, and it looks to be great both visually as well in user experience.
I personally can't wait. This is one wallet that I've been waiting on. The only wallet that I am kind of more eagerly awaiting is the Morpheus Wallet, which offers much of the same but also adds in-wallet-trading options.
MONERO LEDGER UPDATE
More news surrounding Monero (XMR)'s Ledger Nano S implementation too: It's finally here! Sort of, anyway. The news is somewhat dampened by the fact that currently it is possible to store Monero on a Ledger but only through the Command-Line Interface (CLI) version of the Monero Wallet. The actual Monero GUI still needs updating before it will work with the Ledger, and this is still some days off.If you're tech savvy enough you could give the CLI interface a try, but for most users I recommend waiting on the Monero GUI (graphical user-interface). The difference between the two is that the CLI is simply a command-line screen like MS-DOS, which is complex for most non-tech people. The Monergo GUI is, as it's abbreviation implies, a graphical application with which you can access Monero. Most people generally use the GUI.
The news does mean that the Monero GUI will be updated soon as well though. Since the base-work is done on the CLI it should be primarily the graphical interface alterations that still remain. According to dEBRUYNE_1, a moderator on the Monero Reddit the Monero GUI will probably be released later this week.
If you're invested into crypto, I highly recommend a Ledger Nano S hardware wallet for both safety as well as ease-of-use. And with the addition of the all-in-one app it should be easier than ever before to use the device. I recommend anyone who has more than $500 worth of crypto to invest in one of these: it has been my best crypto investment I have ever made. The security and ease-of-use it offers are priceless.
This is absolutely phenomenal news! I knew they had said Chrome was discontinuing apps, but I honestly only anticipated them creating their own versions of the separate wallets, not this very convenient single interface. Now I’m glad chrome discontinued the ability to keep it the old way! Necessity being the mother of invention!
I haven’t heard of Morpheus before, but will check it out. Thanks for the heads up.
You're welcome!
And yes I think it's phenomenal too!
Morpheus is another all-in-one wallet which has Ledger functionality. It doesn't support all the coins that Ledger holds (yet) but has the most important ones. And the interesting part it has some shapeshift/loopring integrations too
This is awesome, 2x good news! Love the desktop app and that monero can finally be stored safely!
I will wait for the GUI though :-)
Yes, I am waiting on the GUI too! Should be a few days!
A few days - like today?!
I hoped so! But so far I haven't come across it..
I guess a few more days?
Hi i just found you from a post from @moderndayhippie, ths is great news! I have lost 1000's on scam wallets, and will also be very happy that Xmr will be having a good wallet! Days are still early in Crypto World, i'm happy I have another year to get money to buy back what I lost or equivalent :)
Awesome! Welcome to my blog :)
And yes, can't wait to safely store my Monero...! I feel sad that its out there, relatively unprotected.. It's such a great project, so much innovation and development going on that it eclipses many other crypto projects!
I lost 5 moneros with FREEWALLETS. and 5 ltc, 200,000 BCN and another one which ive forgotten about to save mental traumas.. that was my first loss lol. I never loose on trading - just on wallets before I had a clue about what it even was in november last year. I just use now ledger and some wallets that I used were legit luckily, and have some on official wallets like onion for example. But hey Ive lost so much hahahahhaha dam, 2 years ago i was pennyless, then since then I earnt and invested and then lost soooo much its mental! Im happy for another quiet year this year so the wallets can be sorted out.. I watched a short interview , its on pootube, an interview with an ex illuminataaaay member who touches on crypto, and says something that I read a while back.. im creating my own UD (there's definitely no fear!) that im not sharing around, but I don't really trust anything these days that we think is "for the people" or a "revolution". this interview the man was saying how the NSA created BTC and there are many backdoors.. have you or anyone reading this seen that interview?
I don't watch news only steemit is the place i have contact with info, which is a lot more than what it was before steemit, so im happy to get involved with crypto talks and thoughts from others!
Oh! So sorry to hear of your losses! That hurts!
I am too paranoid about most cryptocurrencies.. there's very few that I hold that I can't store on the hardware wallet. Even then, i'm paranoid about the hardware wallet too.. so I spread it around multiple ones just to be more safe.
I haven't seen the video you mentioned but I'd be interested in seeing it, maybe you can share a link? I don't think there are backdoors in Bitcoin.. since the code is open-source and anybody can check it for weirdness. That's the beauty of it! The wallet software though, still requires trust in the creator of the wallet. I usually go for open source wallets too and don't trust anything that isn't open source... crypto is the ultimate honeybadger for hackers!
Well the first thing about crypto is , its gambling :)
I still hope that I have BCN as i brought back in after the first loss, I had the android wallet app, but now its not available hahahahahahhha
Don't know how long you've been in crypto or how much you know about it, but from my perspective it's not exactly the same as gambling. It's more akin to the stock market, where you take educated guesses. Many of my bets feel more or less like sure things to me.
I'll watch the video, thanks!
I buy crypto because I believe it will go up in value alot in a few years time, but it might not because maybe the tokens I have won't take off, and be sucsessful companys. Investment is a gamble, Crypto is investing, or trading, and trading is 100% gambling :) That's just my view of it though of course! I like how active you are on here that's very cool! did you check out that pootube vid? Im interested to find those nsa whitepapers, doing your own research is the best option !
im waiting for vote power before i upvote things again :P
