#MyExperience - How I got into the world of crypto? Why I invested in it? How is it so far for me?

On a beautiful evening in San Francisco, when I was sipping down my scotch and chilling with my roommate, he started asking me if I had any idea about cryptocurrencies. Given the state I was in, I told him I have heard about them and not quite sure how exactly they work. Then, he started explaining about bitcoin, the blockchain, how it is mined and what not. I was like W..T..F..!!! With whatever bits and pieces I got from him, blew my mind!!

At this point, the price of a bitcoin was around $2000. (I should have shown more interest at this point!!!!:( )

A couple of weeks passed, another guy at work asked me the same thing again "Do you know about bitcoin?". At this point, bitcoin had reached an all-time high of $4000. My reaction was, again, W....T....wait for it F...!! This jump was just in weeks!

This, certainly, tickled one of the nerves in my brain. After watching many many many videos on YouTube, by the way, there are many and they are just getting started, I realized how the technology underlying bitcoin has the potential to change the way we use the internet in a more secure manner and also by not giving up/sharing the ownership of your data to every single app or website you sign up for. You know how big companies are storing all your data right? They can do any fucking thing! Wait, but don't blame them. You wholeheartedly gave them the ownership of your data to use their services.

I don’t want to teach you what bitcoin and blockchain are all about. I leave that to the experts. To get started, please go ahead and watch this video. This is by far the simplest video I found to understand this concept.

Next, to boost my enthusiasm and learn more about this, I decided to invest some money on them (I guess we only learn when our ass is on fire!!). So, I bought little amounts of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoins from Coinbase exchange worth $1000 and tried to monitor and understand the value since then. Frankly, it took some time for me to convince myself that this is future of the web. As of today, Bitcoin price is $4800 and I have made a little over $150 in profit from all three currencies together, which I am quite sure may go up or go down because of its high volatile nature or I might even end up losing everything I invested. But, this investment made me see a whole new dimension of world wide web and I can say for sure, with my understanding of this tech so far, that my money is not going anywhere!!

Hell yeah!! This made me start and write content and post it on steemit, which is an amazing social media platform built on blockchain technology.

This is even making me think to change my career path and move on to blockchain.

Wouldn’t it be the nicest thing if all the big companies like Google and Facebook don't store your data in their massive data centers and you still get to enjoy all the services you do and much more?

Wouldn’t it be the best thing if all the data you share on social media is owned by you and only you?

Don't you feel happy when can send money across continents to your loved ones without the help of a bank, who charge you exorbitant fees?

Don't you want to do all your financial and web transactions without a middleman?

Don’t you think it is the best thing if the whole world of finance and business becomes more transparent and safe?

This is changing the way people are building and operating businesses around the world. There is new tech era popping up. Give it thought guys! Web 3.0 is here!
