USD and fiat pairs will have a couple of interesting effects:

1. Bitcoin dominance erodes but also becomes less volatile. People no longer need to buy/sell to BTC to get altcoins
2. Dominant exchanges will become even more dominant. It's already hard to deal with the wide bid-ask spread of smaller exchanges and the USD pair will only have small spreads on the largest altcoins on the largest exchanges.
