Tukar ke IndonesiaBank Indonesia (BI) will issue regulation on the regulation of financial technology industry (tekfin / fintech) from the payment system side by the end of 2017 in order to anticipate the development of virtual currency.
The new BI regulation will later reaffirm the ban on the use of virtual currency, such as bitcoin, which has no clear legality. Not only that, the supervision aspects of the payment system in the new beleid will also be improved.
Bank Indonesia Governor Agus DW Martowardojo said in general the rules for the perpetrators of financial technology (tekfin), including e-commerce, is an effort to implement the principles of prudence, risk control and consumer protection.
"Level playing field with a formal financial institution, needs to be maintained. Therefore, all the activists who are moving in the payment system to register to BI, "he said at the 2017 Annual Meeting of Bank Indonesia in Jakarta, Tuesday (28/11/2017).
Not only registering to BI, the technicians should also report their activities. In addition, technicians should also test in the regulatory sandbox, before the business is fully operational.
In this trial period, the tekfin activists will be accompanied by the government in a legal and operational administration of the system, so that no rules are violated by them.
"We prohibit the providers of tekfin, e-commerce, and payment system services that use and process virtual currency, and work with parties that facilitate transactions using virtual currency," said Agus.
The prohibition also aims to prevent money laundering and terrorism financing, while maintaining the sovereignty of the rupiah currency in the territory of Indonesia.
