Microsoft goes BLOCKCHAIN and buys GitHub for 7.5 billion US dollars
Hey Crypto Fans,
Crypto's are down, but the big Player in the market still go in Position. And they invest a lot !
When they are set up completely, we will see a big Impact in the Market.
As announced on Monday, June 5th, the software company Microsoft is digging deep into its pockets and buying the open source platform GitHub for 7.5 billion US dollars. Since many blockchain protocols, including the Bitcoin blockchain, manage their source code on GitHub, this purchase also affects the crypto economy. Will things change in the future?
The open source platform GitHub is a very popular website among programmers. Here they can work together on projects and exchange information, the code base is available for everyone to view. This also maintains the feedback loop, as outsiders can view and comment on the codes. The platform is therefore particularly interesting for decentralized peer-to-peer blockchain projects.
Now the software giant Microsoft has also become aware of the successful platform. To incorporate GitHub, the Seattle-based company is opening its pockets: 7.5 billion US dollars will be paid for the takeover by the end of the year. So Microsoft is now going open-source, after long relying on specially developed software applications. After all, Microsoft developers also use the platform to exchange ideas and optimize codes.
Does this have an impact on the crypto-economy?
There is no clear answer to this question. Firstly, GitHub plays an important role, since a large part of the blockchain codes are located on GitHub. The platform's focus on open source projects makes it particularly attractive for decentralized distributed ledger technologies to make the codes visible to everyone and to open their use to outsiders. In this respect, all changes in the GitHub network can also be felt in the blockchain projects.
On the other hand, a takeover does not automatically mean that Microsoft plans to change essential features of GitHub. On the contrary: Microsoft is acquiring the platform precisely because the company's business model is currently so successful. They want to not only get the product, but also benefit from GitHub's experience as an open source platform. This is especially obvious since Microsoft had finished its own open source experiment CodePlex last year.
Cryptoscene not enthusiastic about Microsoft's entry.
Although the GitHub users probably won't change much in the near future, the crypto community quickly became critical voices. Many users complain that they were not asked, although the amount of code provided is the essential part of the website. Petitions have already been filed demanding the platform's independence. Concentration of power and centralization are feared, in the coder scene Microsoft. However, one should also consider that GitHub itself is not a decentralized platform.
In fact, there are plans to use GitHub less in the future. Alex van de Sande from the Ethereum Foundation will be speaking via Twitter. There he notes that the centralized platform is not the same as a fully decentralized git repository. According to van de Sande, the reason why GitHub has established itself as the number one platform in this area is the convenience of the centralized website. He describes the fact that Microsoft is now taking over this as a lesson.
Bitcoin had published almost all codes and protocols on GitHub since the beginning. A withdrawal of the developers would be a heavy blow for the platform.

True, This is the fact we believe and hence i am very much bullish on this !!! visit my website: www.cryptoguruji.com
Sounds like we a need a decentralized Github. To be honest I'm not really worried, because Bill Gates has already said he likes blockchain technology itself, and they're obviously open to open source code. I don't think anything will change; it's just a reminder to the crypto community to get working.
