Is your computer mining crypto currency without you knowing?

in #cryptocurrency8 years ago (edited)

As you all probaly know WannaCry has wreacked havoc around the whole globe lately by hacking into nhs systems aswell as others, but thats not the only trick it has up its sleeve ( It could be using your computer to mine crypto currencies ) ... When looking into the attacks, A security firm called Proofpoint has discovered the existence of another threat that also uses the NSA's leaked hacking tools named EternalBlue and DoublePulsar to exploit the Window vulnerabilities. What is Ransomware? Ransomware takes over its victims' computers and attempts to extort a form of payment and unfortunately this time it happened to be bitcoin, The new attack named Adylkuzz has a much quieter existence on your computer. It's basically a small program that gets in your PC, using its resources to then put your computer onto a network and turn thrm all in to virtual mining farms to mine for a cryptocurrency called Monero and posssibly others! ...

There is also evidence to suggest its been in use since May 2nd but it could have been around as early as April 24th. It went under everyone's radar because it seemed to be nowhere near as bigger news grabbing as the WannaCry attack attacking important files on nhs systems , It doesn't require people to know how to use Bitcoin but now sadly has given bitcoin a bit of a bad name but just remember its not bitcoin thats bad it is the person and his plans to get it. According to Proofpoints executive Ryan Kalember, the creators of Adylkuzz could've already earned millions from its efforts. Meanwhile, the three Bitcoin wallets connected to WannaCry have only had payments the equivalent to about $80,000. Proofpoint says that more cyber criminals will use the NSA's leaked tools in the future so be very cautious and make sure you protect your computers, install patches, keep your Windows computer and tablets updated and be very cautious about any unlicensed software you were thinking to download ...

I think the best way to look at this whole current scenario is mass adoption is happening now and its getting faster and people want bitcoin and will get it through good or bad ways just like what happens with any other fiat currency or commodity in this world today ... So my advice is protect your bitcoin or any other crypto currency you have on an offline hardware wallet and be prepared for a new world! ... I have a Ledger Nano S and am happy with it, There are other brands to like Trezor that are very good but i would recommend Ledger as i have one and use it without any issues...
