Crypto Collector's Item? Coinye Coin - Circa 2014
Could that ever be a thing in the future? An actual Collector of ancient dead coins/ blockchains? I'll explain lol.
Who else loves to get high and watch South Park? Back in early 2014 I laughed like never before as an episode of South Park ( South Park Season 13 episode 5 )mocked Kanye West.
After Jimmy Volmer writes this brilliant joke that takes the world by storm, Kanye West is the only person alive that doesn't get it. He goes to extreme lengths to prove that he's not a gay fish, until he finally embraces it at the end of the episode and seemingly makes love to a giant fish. If you've ever seen someone at a Kanye West show holding a sign that says "gay fish," this episodes is to blame.
The joke went:
"Do you like fishsticks? Do you like fishsticks in your mouth? Well, then you're a gay fish."
In no time, some coin dev with a sense of humor decided to launch Coinye Coin. I started mining day one with 2 brand new scrypt miners that I had just purchased and until the original halt, I mined 3.1 million from January 23- February 25 ( I kept mining until the block explorer expired).
Launched and supposedly killed in January of 2014, Coinye was a cryptocurrency developed with the intention it might be used to buy concert tickets and the devs also hoped their ingenuity would earn them West's blessing, because they used his name and likeness without seeking his approval.
Turns out, being the ass he is, Kanye West did not love that there was a currency named in his honor. In fact, directly the opposite. West issued a cease and desist to the creators of Coinye, prompting them to change the currencies logo and open it up to trade a few days ahead of schedule. Coinye lived(traded) for less than a week; by the end of January 2014, its creators declared it dead, and three of them ended up settling with West in court.
But wait, it didn't die. I just googled it and they have a new website and a working block explorer! The gay fish coin lives!! http://.coinye.net
Come to find out, nobody actually got sued; some angry letters were sent by Kanye's lawyers. The Original Devs left after the first week, and still remain anonymous to this day. Some other people signed some agreement never to get involved in or talk about Coinye again in exchange to not get sued.
Anyways, glad I saved them all these years and I have my wallet syncing now, we'll see if an exchange arise or what lol.
