I'm sure you all have noticed the world seemingly circling the drain these last few years, as world leaders butt heads, income inequality grows, and people become increasingly complacent and disconnected. In the vast and complex echo chamber that is social media and the 24-hour news cycle, rhetoric has become more polarizing, more nearsighted, and more harmful than ever before. Our relationships to one another continue to strain under the weight of all this tension, and it's clearly not sustainable.

Perhaps you've experienced some feelings related to this situation yourself, of isolation, desperation, outrage, helplessness, or even resignation. Well, my friends, you're not alone; we're all in this uphill battle together.
Everyone here on Steemit has already been a part of the tip of the cryptocurrency iceberg's potential in uniting the world and breaking down barriers, creating a productive and engaging community and bringing some power back to the people. With Flat Earth Token, we've incorporated cryptocurrency's inclusive power with one of the most harshly divisive types of rhetoric -- that of conspiracy theories and the Flat Earther movement.

Our unifying vision relies on absurdity and humor to bring people together from all belief systems and all walks of life. After all, if you can't laugh at yourself, how can you laugh at anyone else? We're here to spread a message of respect and goodwill in a desperate time, to build a vibrant and caring community of folks who value and empathize with the human condition, and who truly wish to elevate the level of connectedness and contentedness they see in the world today.

You may be asking yourself, "So, what does Flat Earth Token do, exactly?" Well, strictly speaking, Flat Earth Token is not launching with any inherent utility. However, seeing as the spirit of our goals lie in productive and positive change, we have discussed possibilities of engaging in varying types of philanthropic work in the future, depending on the long term growth of the FET community. In other words, should the FET token prove a decently viable store of value and a functional asset, and since our token distribution leaves room for some additional expenditure, we'll certainly be in touch with the community about exploring these options.
