How cryptocurrencies got in my life and why i had to jump in

in #crypto7 years ago (edited)

A couple weeks ago, my boyfriend came to me with this wild tale of internet money with an unknown creator that will revolutionize the world as we know it in the near future. Needless to say i was skeptical... An unknown guy creates "internet money" and it's going to change the way we use and see real money? Right...

We started researching a little about crypto, discovered www.coinmarketcap.com, Coinbase and watched a couple YouTube videos. Ok, now I've got to admit that the more I was hearing about crypto and the more I was researching it, the more I became interested, the more it made so much more sens to use world-wide virtual money as everything is now virtual and the whole world is connected at all time.

And than we found this video of Andreas Antonopoulos. Just watch it, maybe it's a little on the longer side, but please just watch it. You'll thank me later!

Bitcoin is a virtual currency that is not backed by a government or an institution, but by the people. Bitcoin is not authorized by anybody but it's verified by everybody and can be used by anybody. No one can stop it because there is no company, no servers, no physical point of contact.

Let's imagine Bitcoin as a large web of connected computers, when a transaction is submitted, the whole group of connected computers will have access to the info of the transaction, verify it and make sure it matches the information the other computers have.

Just numbers, verified at the same time by a large number of computers all linked to the same blockchain.

No fraud, no human error, no friends with financial benefits! Let's all get that to sink in!

Then, I discovered the altcoins and how many of them there was, exactly 1369 different currencies and tokens at the moment where I write these lines. I saw how different each and every single one of them are and the world of possibilities they will open. It seamed almost infinite, my mind was blown!

Obviously after that, i wanted to own some cryptocurrencies! So I created a Coinbase account and linked my credit card to my account. The first cryptocurrency I bought, like everybody else, is Bitcoin; the big sister of all other coin, first of her kind, well established, virtual gold.

After experiencing the fees I had to pay with Coinbase, I knew there had to be a better way... That's when I discovered Quadriga, a Canadian exchange that lets you buy Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin with Canadian money and lower fees. No going back for me!

Since buying my first Bitcoin parcels, I've diversified my modest portfolio with Litecoin, Ripple, Ethereum and Power Ledger. I'll post more about why I personnally invested ineach of those 5 cryptocurrencies a little later!

And now that you know a little more about me, i want to know more about you! How did you discover Bitcoin?
