🎬 From Ugandan Village to Music Video Director – My Story as Dir Charz FX
Hello Steemit Family!
I go by the name Dir Charz FX, a passionate music video director from the heart of Uganda, and today I want to take you on a journey—my journey. From dusty village paths to high-end cameras, from shooting with phones to working with some of East Africa’s rising stars, this is how I turned my passion into a career.
🌱 Humble Beginnings in Nakaswa Kyagwe
I was born and raised in Nakaswa Kyagwe, deep in Kasawo sub-county, Mukono district. Like many kids in rural Uganda, I grew up with no electricity, no internet, and definitely no cameras. But I had one thing—vision.
We used to gather around small radios and imagine what the music videos looked like. That imagination shaped my desire to create visuals that speak louder than words.
🎥 First Steps into Filmmaking
After school, I started playing around with any camera I could find—even borrowed mobile phones. I didn't have fancy gear, but I had ideas. I watched tutorials at internet cafés, studied videos by legends like Director Kenny, and practiced every chance I got.
Eventually, I founded Hit Filmz & VideoGraphics Company U Ltd—my own production house where I direct music videos, short films, and content for brands.
🔊 Joining the Music Industry
In 2024, I joined Its Gorgeous Musique Uganda as an A&R (Artist & Repertoire). This opened more doors—not just to shoot videos, but to develop talent and shape the sound of our generation. Working with passionate artists across Uganda made me realize: Africa has stories the world needs to see.
💡 Lessons I’ve Learned
Start with what you have: My first “studio” was a tiny corner with a cracked phone and natural light.
Consistency beats talent: I wasn’t the best when I started, but I showed up every day.
Network matters: Relationships built on trust and passion can change your life.
Never forget your roots: My story began in a village—and I carry that strength with me always.
