Beauty and the Beast (1991): The Beast Mask and Review.
Everyone, or at least most of us, have seen Disney's "Beauty and the Beast", a classic tale, with legendary songs and rhymes, but also with moments that inspire nostalgia. And yes, we are talking about the 1991 film, which we will take as reference for what I am going to show you.
Beast Mask
This is the first mask I have made, so I still have a lot to improve, I made it some time ago for a dance and theater presentation about Beauty and the Beast, where I was the protagonist. It was a success, we enjoyed a lot, and everything was a total success! As I mentioned in my first post, dance unites people and souls, it gives you the opportunity to meet people who share the same passion as you, where everyone supports each other, instead of criticizing someone's style you help them to the better and you learn from it too, the truth is something incredible, but I will leave that topic for a future post, it is really extensive.
The development of the mask only required a lot of plaster bandages to make the base, it was the most important thing for the mask to fit my physiognomy and not fall when dancing. The rest can be done with any flexible material and a lot of patience, MUCH PATIENCE! Here is the creation process.
IMPORTANT: When using the plaster bandages to create the base of your face, it is important to cover with something the areas of the eyebrows and hair, it is painful if you do not do it and also you would lose a lot of hair as if you had used wax or something similar, so those areas should be covered with something and use Vaseline or some kind of oil on the rest of the face so that the plaster does not stick to the skin.
History Review (Spoiler Alert)
Many years ago in a faraway land, a handsome young prince lived in a beautiful castle, and although he had everything he could wish for, he was very selfish, spoiled, unkind and in his heart there was no love. One cold winter night, an old beggar woman came to her castle and asked for shelter from the cold in exchange for a rose. The prince, disgusted by his ragged appearance, scoffed at the gift and expelled it with contempt. She warned him not to get carried away by appearances, because beauty was inside. When he rejected her again, the old woman revealed herself as a beautiful sorceress and did not accept any apology since there was no love in the prince's heart. As a punishment, he enchanted the prince and those who lived with him in the castle. The prince was made a fearsome beast and the servants took on the appearance of household objects, such as chandeliers, cupboards, wells, etc.
The rose that he left was actually an enchanted rose that will wither when he turns 21, only if the prince learned to love and at the same time got someone to love him before the rose lost its last petal everything would return to normal otherwise the prince would be condemned to be a beast eternally, unhappy and abandoned. In addition to the magic rose, the sorceress left a magical mirror through which she could see what he wanted.
Belle is a beautiful girl, different from the other girls who live in her town, considered a strange girl. He lives with his father Maurice, an inventor whom many consider a crazy old man. One day Maurice marches to a fair of inventors, but gets lost in the way and takes shelter in a castle, nothing more and nothing less than the castle of the Beast, who makes him a prisoner. Belle, worried to see that her father's horse returns without him, goes in search of her. When he arrives at the castle he decides to exchange with his sick father to save him. condemned to remain eternally imprisoned in the castle.
After a series of events that create a new connection between Belle and Beast, they begin to take affection and affection for one another and this gives access to almost all parts of the castle, giving Belle a complete library full of endless from books. Belle, after living many moments of joy with Beast, discovers the beauty that exists within her heart since she had created that feeling of love in him. He falls in love with her but lets her go because his sick father needed her, even knowing the consequences, because the rose was about to wither.
When revealed the existence of the Beast, Gaston (A handsome hunter who wants to take Belle as his wife) takes a group of peasants and give chase. In the castle develops a series of clashes between Beast and his servants (Domestic objects) against Gaston and the peasants, where the latter are defeated and flee the castle except for Gaston, who falls to a precipice, leaving very badly injured to the First. At the moment when the Beast is dying and the last petal of the magic rose falls, Belle with tears in her eyes, tells the prince that she loves him. At this moment, the spell of the sorceress is broken and the Beast returns to be the handsome young man of yesteryear, the servants return to be human and Belle finally marries the prince.
