I woke up with Spinning in my head today
Shiner is an old favorite band of mine. The last album they did was The Egg in 2001. Last week, they released a new song called "Life as a Mannequin", which I saw on Instagram of all places. If you had told me in 2001 that Shiner would be releasing a new song via Instagram, I would've probably pictured an Instagram being something that came in the regular mail or something like that.
Yesterday, I saw that they'd announced the release of a whole new album this May and opened up on the pre-sale. The new song, to me, has similar vibes to their 2000 album Starless, which I listened to yesterday after giving "Life as a Mannequin" another spin. For that reason, it's not surprising that I ended up with "Spinning" in my head. It's the opening track on Starless.
Their style is basically heavy indie rock. It's got slight hints of metal, but it's definitely not metal. It's a little dark, a little moody, and it's just something I really enjoy. I've had the privilege of seeing Shiner several times over the past few years, as they've been doing reunion shows. Honestly, they've probably been doing them for something like 8 years at this point.
