Conflict and corruption
I live in South Africa and as many know it has joined a list of very corrupt and violent countries. The new government was supposed to become one of equality and democracy, it didn't. The current government is more race discriminatory than the old SA government could ever have dreamed to be. There are more than 100 race based laws excluding minority groups from the job markets and since the writing of Black Economic Empowerment and Affirmative Action things have slid down hill faster and faster.
Apart from the fact that the ANC government has lost more than 800 billion rand they continue to blame apartheid for the decline of the country which they very clearly said would be better. They have created no jobs, been responsible for the collapse of om most of the mines and other businesses, the education level pass rate has dropped by more than 20 percent and the level of the education is so poor that most kids can't even reach the prescribed 30%. The world at large is lied to about the extreme and brutal level of violence perpetrated on us here and most governments out there who worked so hard at ending apartheid is now quiet in the wake of what is going on today.
The government has now changed the constitution to make their theft of privately owned property without compensation legal which is going to turn very ugly as no one is going to part with what they have worked for legally without one hell of a fight, hell will follow. I never in a million years thought that I would have to go to bed at night with a gun next to my bed and a voice in my head that constantly reminds me to be alert enough to act swiftly and with precision when danger comes as it does to so many every night, many of those people never see the day break again. Sadly there are still people out there who think white South Africans live too well and are flaming racists, well you need to revisit your own decency and intellect.
News flash to those people, we're not racists and everything we have we work for. Progress is the result of applying oneself mentally and physically in order to move forward toward having a better life for oneself and one's family, it has nothing to do with being a certain color, but everything with being and productive and contributing member of a civilized society.
It saddens me that this beautiful country is so torn by those who are supposed to govern it.
Improvise Adapt & Overcome
1 sbi back at you lol.
It's a terrible state of play mate and I would imagine a difficult environment to thrive in unless, I guess, you're a policy maker. It seems to be human nature to take advantage of weaker or less-powerful people and it seems your government is perpetuating that human trait.
Pete, we watched Lauren Southern's Farmlands two nights ago and it is the most chilling 70 minutes I have seen in a long time. We have urged our friends to watch it to understand how dire the conditions are for you.
We welcome any information you can pass on to let us know of your progress in your new location and the new job. I also keep my "discussion group" updated for background relevance.
May the Force be with you, mate.
For friends of Pete:
