The Daily Contest: Write A Drabble

in #contest6 years ago

Any other writers on steemit?

Even if you are not a writer you are welcome to join the drabble contest. What is a drabble you ask? It is a story that is 100 words. For this contest I want you to write a drabble in the comments. For other contests I will give a theme or a scenario but for this one it is all you. I will not be strict with the word count at long as it is 90-110 words. And bonus points if you add a picture to match the story (it does not have to be yours, it can be one from pixabay or another commercial free photo site)

Three winners with 100% upvote.

Lets get our writing skills on.

And please spread the word. Resteems help and if you have not followed and retweeted me on twitter you can still get an upvote of 10-25%

The hot wind gently shook the flowers. The weather had been dry and exceptionally warm for the past week. We saw a lone bee buzzing around one sunflower.

This was a surprise because we knew that bees and other pollinators were experiencing a major die off. A die-off that was so serious, people

Shortages were already being noticed in stores, blueberries, almonds, and many other normal food items had risen in price and in danger of becoming luxury items.

This lone bee on a single flower sparked hope. More would come.

Here is my entry for the contest. Thanks for the challenge! @whatageek

The shadows grew longer, as she walked along the beach road to the cottage, at the top of the hill. There was a chill that ran the length of her spine. The sound of silent but steady footsteps, could be heard following her, closing the distance that had protected her, for a while.

She felt the thumping of her heartbeat, in her ears and sudden adrenaline, rushing through her veins. Never had she be followed, or stalked in her life. There was always a first time.

Breaking into a fast run, she abandoned herself to the wind and fled like a horse at full gallop, the wind in her nostrils, heading for home.
The faint glimmer of the sun disappeared over the horizon and the twinkling lights of her home, beckoned to her, through the trees.

She was safe at last, grateful to be alive, and shivering, she quickly bolted the door behind her.

How did things go this wrong? I imagined my leisure time after I retired to be filled with visits from my grandchildren. I didn't expect my time to be dedicated to visiting their father in prison. Ryan played basketball starting with YMCA league and through all 4 years of college. He majored in criminal justice. What an irony. He joined the military and deployed to Iraq because his younger brother had joined and gotten deployed. He came home safe and sound and started a family. What happened? A severe 3rd degree burn, leading to an addiction to pain killers. The opioid crisis is real.

WINNER
It really is an unfortunate situation.

Yes it is, and unfortunately, this is a true story. I wish it was fiction. Those last few months before he hit bottom were like watching a train wreck and being unable to stop it. And now that he's been incarcerated for about 6 months he's, of course, fully back to the man I know and I love. Facing the realization of what has happened to his life and missing his 4 year old daughter and 6 year old son. I can only hope and pray that he remembers these lessons and wants to be the man he was before the drugs. I'm sorry if this wasn't the kind of story you were expecting. I'll do fiction next time!

Title: Enjoy Your life

There was a bird that he was very tall, he would have been tickling around here. Sometimes this twig never sticks on that twig. But that bird was a habit that he used to accompany him with good or bad stones in a bundle and often took the stones out of the bundle and saw the good stones Looking back, He was happy to remember the good times in the past. It would be sad to see bad stones and do it every day. By collecting daily stones his bottle was becoming increasingly heavy day by day. After a few days, it began to trouble with flying bogies. But he could not understand why he could not rise.
Some time passed, and it was becoming heavy. Now it was also difficult to walk on the ground.

And one day it came that he could not arrange food for himself and died under the burden of his own stones.

Moral Of the Story -

Friends are with us when we keep the bottle of old bottles with us. Instead of enjoying the present, they are thinking of the past.

The o’driscolls were the leaders an Irish immigrant gang who came to America in search of fortune! They moved from town to town robbing banks and all the while making a fortune!

Having so much money was impossible to travel with so they decided to store it underground in various parts of the country side and some spots were never recovered

100 years later while digging up the garden to install a pool a young couple came across one of the hidden loot and told no one! They lived comfortably and happily ever after

The shadow was dark and mischievous, she never left Anna alone, she did not break away from her even if she begged her. That shadow was really a mess, Anna loved the solitude and yet her shadow always followed her, she tried to unstitch it, to detach it but she could not get her away from her. Sometimes she try to hit shadow, she beat the fists against that intrusive shadow,
One day Anna decided to end it and to kill her shadow, she closed in the dark and said goodbye to the light, she no longer saw her shadow.

They say doctors are proud and arrogant but nobody wanna know what they had to pass through to become one. As a medical students the nurses and doctors abuse and tell you how useless you gonna be if u don't read more. We go to hospital by 8am to come back by 3pm only to go back to hospital for calls by 4pm till the next morning and the circle continues. During the calls we battle with a lot of things, the doctors, the mosquitos especially and sleep. Some of us sleep in a patients bed while some sleep sitting. What time do we have to read more.....

It really is a noble job.

Wolf Child's Poem

The mist of the forest formed the thickness, a thousand voices in one just about to spill its madness.
My childish silhouette receives a flash of light from the sky, which makes my first tear spill.
I feel the hair grow behind my neck and my mouth are now jaws and my electric eyes like rubies trigger the supernatural instinct.
With my sharp senses and my sharp ears I could not contain it anymore. And I cried Wolf, the trapped souls became my howls; and wolf I wept without consolation and the voice of the wild preserved my infinite world.
