RE: COMPLETE THE STORY CONTEST #4

in #contest6 years ago

Caleb had always been a notorious fellow, always causing trouble wherever he went. One may say that his actions were due to the fact that his parents were late. But that was no excuse as he had his Uncle catering for his needs. Caleb had joined up with bad company and his case became worse. So bad that his uncle kicked him out of the house. When he was leaving. his uncle's wife told him this "This habit of yours would lead to your doom."

Instead of lashing out a smart reply, he just grabbed his stuff and headed out the door. The anger he felt towards her made him feel this thing, like a hot thread being pulled along his center. He could feel the energy coming and smirked as he thought “That statement of yours would lead to YOUR doom”. Of course she wouldn't understand. The hallucinogens and dissociative drugs he gets from the guys from the alley on the farthest end of the city is the only thing keeping him from ruining everything in this stupid place. Only the hallucinations can make this thing he possess sensible. This thing might be the reason why his parents kept forgetting his existence in the first place. Who would want to deal with a freak?

The thoughts agitated him even more. He really needs those meds quickly. But then it hit him, he does not have any money to pay them since his uncle kicked him out, so what now? He trudged fast along the paved road which started having tiny cracks on them as he walked. He could feel his palms tingling and a small pile of stacked books for donations to his right went up in flames. The people were surprised and confused while they panicked to put out the fire.

His eyes grew wide as he watched the flames and started running towards the end of the city, leaving behind him chaos of different degrees. It could gave been handy, you know? This power, or this curse but he kept repressing it and never honed it for it was to him, nothing but a curse.

Apparently, he could summon fire, pyrokinesis as they called it. The other thing where everything just caves in and crumbles, he has no idea what that is.

He reached the alley where guys in dull colored clothing littered near a bonfire, looking dazed and, well, drugged.

“Main! Main! I need hallucinogens man.”

“You got the money for it?” Main, the guy near the back said, his words echoing along the sooty bricked walls. Caleb can see him as he stood up straight and walked towards him. He was the dealer known with many names but Caleb knew nothing more about him other than that he was a jerk.

“Well, no, my uncle kicked me out. But you know me, I always pay. I just really need them now and I can pay you back later.” Caleb said. Squeezing his eyes shut as he started seeing flashes of red and glimmers of light started dancing around his line of sight. He heard a sound like stone cracking nearby, and a low hum as the brick wall shook ever so slightly.

“Well, I'm pretty sure you know that that’s not how things work around here. You got to pay first, before you dive in and even forget that you bought the candies in the first place.”

The bonfire burned a little higher and the brick walls got a bit looser. Caleb started walking towards Main, shoving the hair out of his eyes as he said, “Listen, I just need them now, and I swear I will pay you back.” He started pulling on Main's coat but he got shoved back. And that's when the walls fell in the alley and the fire reached high, meeting the bricks which fell on everyone in the alley as Caleb fell flat on the main paved road. It was not the first time his chaos had taken a life, and it always seemed like an accident due to flawed structures and weak foundations.

The tingling in his palms took him back to the task at hand, but as he walked towards the pile of bricks and dust to try and retrieve some of the hallucinogens from Main's body, the sound of sirens ringed from afar. Caleb panicked and started running towards the end of the city and out of the borders. And without the hallucinogens and depressants, he wondered how he could manage this curse running through his veins.
