Positivity can Protect a Community
Show Positive Vibes not only on Steemit - take care!
Hiya Steemians - I think it is necessary to post again about positive vibes and taking care of your community fellow members. We all are aware of things that we are not happy here on Steemit or on other platforms or in real life. Most of us might be not happy with their job, their boss, sometimes with their wife / husband - this is normal but we all should step back a bit everyday and re-consider what is important on life and on the places we are active. Right?
Our world is driven by people with power, money or other criteria that make them influential. These powerful people some of us / you fear are also humans first, having more power is not always bad but gives also potential. Whales here are not per definition bad - they are humans like all of us. Think the most powerful people on Steemit and everywhere get so many questions such as "help me please" and other spam that it is totally normal that they also flag some people, especially the ones that just ask for help without knowing or taking the time to take care of the one they approach - taking care is important! The requester side needs to recognise that as well.
Back to Positivity - when I started here I tried to push positivity across the board but then also flagged people (mainly as of radical political views they were communicating), I also suffered from flags or negative comments and trolling - hey this is common in reality, why should a social media platform be different? How can people believe they get upvotes when they simply do not at all try to understand the person they ask for support! Flags or Downvotes can also be positive as they educate the person getting flagged - if they consider to think why it happened. Other positive thing of a flag is to protect the reward pool which is for all of us.
I have been an early adopter of a lot social platforms since the last 10 years - one initiative from the network called tsu by @anthonyphillips is still coming to my mind which was called Positivity breeds Positivity.
So this post is designed to spread positivity by explaining a bit that we do not all have the same definition of what is being considered as positive - wishing everyone a fantastic weekend and please check the weekly LoveFriday initiative by @liliana.duarte - another Steemian full of positivity.
Don't let greed dominate Steemit
No matter if you are on trending, no matter if you struggle to earn some Cents, no matter if you get attacked just try (at least try, it is hard sometimes) to keep some positivity around you. People like that - you are more attractive to others and you can attract more positive people to this platform. The ones that do not scam and spam, the good boys and girls, the content creators, the charity minded people - let us all try hard to make this place a better place in the social media world.
Criticism is needed - arguing is NOT toxic
However in view of the success for all of us let us be realistic and able to communicate criticism in a constructive way. Not every human being is perfect, nor is any platform. Stay away from simply negative people but also do not call others toxic that try to suggest valuable things. a down vote / flag is maybe negative for the account that receives but can be extremely positive for the community too. That is to me also a part of showing or proving the power of positivity.

"Stay away from simply negative people but also do not call others toxic that try to suggest valuable things. a down vote / flag is maybe negative for the account that receives but can be extremely positive for the community too" <---Yes, thanks for saying this!!! I'm so glad you pointed that out, because when people are SO positive that they pretend everything is perfect, it almost starts to seem delusional and unrelatable lol.
You can still be a positive person while also being realistic. I'm glad you fall into the group of people who are positive yet a realist.
Thanks for explaining that and educating people about that as well, because I think it needs to be pointed out!
Thanks for this comment - glad we found each other now :-). Valid points - criticism our doing due diligence is seen too often as negativity by certain people. I am all in if I am convinced by concepts but before I get crazy on something I want to know all details before but consider myself still as #positive and #openminded :-)
Indeed positivity is absolutely important for the health of a person and a platform like Steemit.
If we let all the politics, negativity, drama and flag wars get to us we will miss out on the awesome human stories, of the challenges overcomed by humans, of the charity and helpful nature of man as he cares for his fellow man.
It is not that we are sweeping those under the rug but we are merely focusing more on teh good that platform can do.
If we want a place that is great and safe for us then we need to create it. Woe is the nation that needs Heroes when its citizens should be it's protectors.
We are the ones defining this Platform .
Seriously it is difficult to be 100% happy on this planet, as we have high expectations. But it is not impossible! In our past years we learned how to be happy and how to control our mind or actions.
We need to be positive all the time and hope for the better future. Be patient and never give up. Every successful person gained success after many failures.
Alone we cant do it, but together we will. So lets work together toward the real success :)
I think a lot of what you have here in this post goes back to our individual intentions for the platform. It's something I did from the very beginning and I try hard to stay within the intentions I set as to how I am going to show up on here.
My intentions are to create uplifting, empowering and positive content, which I believe I do. But it can be easy to get off tract sometimes and get caught up in conflict of views or the drama of the platform. (not that I've had too much experience with that here)
This post also speaks transparency to me, which is one of the major things I love about this platform. I think people's true colours are highlighted and it's a beautiful thing.
Thanks for these perspectives today :)
Hey @uwelang
Nice job, thanks for posting.
This is the second post today I have read about positive attitude. It's a really valid point and at times I really do not understand anyone on here that wants to spread negativity. Fortunately, so far, they are few and far between.
Things like replying to comments and posts are crucial for spreading good feeling in the community, especially for us newbie minnows. The flagging side of things, again from a Newbie standpoint, is a bit more difficult. It's hard to know where you stand on these things when you first land here and flagging someone feels very negative. Until you understand the lay of the land and the future benefits for the Steemit community as a whole, you kind of back away.
@tressareid posted about general positive attitude and your post is more directly about Steem, both containing great advice. You guys have inspired me to write something from a newbie perspective so I'm going to crack on and give it a go.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers, Gaz.
