RE: Gifts, Colors, Paradise & Dreams
Howdy sir Glen! Havne't been around much this week so I thought I'd see what was going on. You've been to Oahu three times? Dang! That's fantastic. I've never even been out of the country. Those are wonderful scenery photos and I think the Dolphin is pretty darn cool, I think he did a great job.
Well, Hawaii is a part of the United States, so it's not really leaving the country, though you do have to leave the continental U.S. to get there. :)
Yes, my wife and I have been to Oahu three times. Next time, we're probably going to try Maui (whenever next time is). Our family also spent a few hours in Vancouver, British Columbia, and all of us have spent time in Mexico, mainly my wife and the boys. I've been there a total of four times, mostly Mexico City and some of the surrounding states, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta and the Cancun area.
So, really, I haven't left North America. One of these days, maybe.
I take it you weren't able to catch up after the internet came back on? Or have you been down some more? More work around the property, maybe?
sir Glen! yes I know Hawaii is part of the United States! lol..don't get smart on me, I'll have to come over there! But Mexico ain't and I never been there neither. Most people can't afford to travel over the ocean. Can you say travel overseas if you're going to Hawaii? geez.
No, I started working outside on projects that need to get done before Spring so when we got back online I decided to keep working outside, I basically took the week off, haven't done that since I started.
Hey what happens when someone hits the "ignore" button, I don't even know where it is but in my comments I keep getting a red box which says Ignored under someone's username. What does that do anyway, keeps them from seeing my posts? it's always from people I don't know, same thing with "unfollows".
Yeah, there's an ignore or mute button that people can push if they decide they don't want to see posts or comments from people anymore. I've used it a time or two, but usually unfollowing will do the trick, unless the folks are constantly bombarding your posts through the comment section. Not sure why anyone would be doing it to you, though. You can mute folks by either clicking on your followers, or those who are following you. I would guess it's mostly used to mute people who are following or who just won't leave people alone. :)
Well I don't know why people would do that either, I mean if I don't want to read someone's posts I just skip them I don't mute them or unfollow them. Does that happen to you too? Or is it just me? lol. I've had some comments, mostly from people in other countries who don't like what I do because they think I'm pushing violence or in favor of violence or something because of the history that I do.
I have muted a few people before. They're following me, for some reason. I did it because they were leaving spam comments on posts and if they're muted I don't have to see them. Basically works as a flag without any of the major consequences.
Unfollowing folks does make more sense than muting them, unless one feels that it's only going to be for a while and instead of unfollowing, a simple unmuting will take care of it. I probably wouldn't do it myself, but it's probably done (since virtually anything possible is done here).
Pushing or in favor of violence, eh? Hmmmm. Well, you've been heavy on outlaws of late, but you also seem to have some kind of an audience for it, so I guess you take the good with the bad in such cases.
History, however, is history, and I'd rather know it than not. We're living in interesting times, sir, where too many seem to go looking to be offended, rather than moving on. In a way, I don't mind sticking up for oneself, someone else, or a principle—all good things—but lately, it's been overboard. We'll get to the point where we can't say anything or do anything that isn't offensive to someone somewhere.
Of course, since a lot of it has to do with putting people in their place, or playing the victim, a lot of it is disingenuous and taking advantage of the situation and the times. So, I say, for what it's worth, you keep doing what you're doing, and those who don't like it have the option to do what they're doing—unfollow, mute, or simply not read.
Good morning sir Glen! I agree and with that this platform was designed so that it wasn't so easy for large accounts to downvote people they don't agree with because they become the unofficial censors.
And then with all these flag wars and all that, what a waste of voting power!
Hey I wanted to ask you about delegations because someone told me that if you delegate you earn 8% interest on the amount that you delegate. Then the other day a couple of people were talking about delegating and they said you make less from delegating, in other words you lose money than if you left it in your account.
I bet you've researched delegating.
I haven't researched delegation. I've not been all that keen on it, except in circumstances where it allows someone to actually use the platform because of low RC counts. I think it's too easy to become hooked on it if you're the recipient, and I see too many people delegating out so much of their SP that they can't leave a decent upvote when they do.
So, I don't know the mechanics. The more SP you have, the more you earn (I'm not sure if they call it interest, but that's what most of us know it as—can't remember the term, though).
I don't know if there's an automatic amount that you earn from delegation. I've always understood it as being, if you want to charge someone for the delegation, you do, if you don't, then you don't. But as far as that being any automatic thing, I'm not aware of it.
Sorry that I'm not much help here.
re: larger accounts and flags
It's pretty sad that a mechanism that's meant to demonstrate a disagreement with rewards (with a few other things mixed in) can only be properly wielded by the larger SP accounts who also have a higher reputation rating, because it does lead to a lot of abuse. If smaller accounts could do it without having their reputations smashed, which then makes it harder for them to earn rewards thereafter without a restoration of reputation, then maybe it would be fairer. Although, then you'd have all the bot accounts banding together to take down users. So, I don't know.
There's a reason why we can't have nice things, and we keep jumping headlong into it. :)
Sir Glen, I haven't been keeping up on everything that's been going on, all the politics of steemit, but I've heard about another hardfork coming or is that just wishful thinking on some member's parts? It seems like they could put an end to the abuse and censorship by changing the way people can downvote smaller accounts.
What's that last sentence mean? I understood everything you said perfectly except your last sentence about nice things and jumping into something, I'm sure it's my comprehension ability and not your writing. lol.
