Such Joy To See Children Smile And Be Grateful For Basic Necessities Of Life !

in #community7 years ago (edited)

Our school planned once again a visit to an orphanage in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We took about twenty of our own students on a field trip to teach them a lesson about sharing and caring. It's wonderful to see the orphans smiling with such gratefulness in their eyes.

The Orphanage

Our vice principal worked at the orphanage just before he started his journey with us. The orphanage was not as far out of Phnom Penh as the previous orphanage we visited in December month. There are more orphans in this orphanage. They house about 56 orphans and the age differs between 4 - 15 years old.

We took a tour through the orphanage to view the living conditions and it was shocking to see how many children are in one room. These people know how to get the most out of a room! There are 3 rooms for the boys and 2 rooms for the girls. They share 2 bathrooms between them and they seem to enjoy it. There are 4 classrooms where they receive education. I take my hat off for all the people who step in and help the orphanages all over the world, not just in Cambodia.

When you lose a parent, you realize how vital they are to the foundation of your life. It's impossible to understand what it means until that curtain is pulled. You're an orphan. But then I think that life is kind of remarkable, and the thing that causes the biggest pain can also bring amazing energy. - Neneh Cherry

During our visit to the orphanage, there was also a group of 4 Australian volunteers from an NGO. They also gave us a warm welcome and helped us handing out the gifts to the children. Bless them for their participation in shaping the future!

We made packets with toothbrushes, toothpaste, pencils, noodles, and of course a bit of candy. We had some toys we gave them with their presents so they have something to do when they are finished studying.

I want to thank everyone who made this day possible and a shout out to my school CIA, Cambodia! We need to do more projects like this with different institutions so we can support life to helpless children everywhere.

Happy Chinese New Year to all!
