Harvesting Banana Buds in Thailand
Banana buds are delicious. We harvested them for supper yesterday. They hang quite high often, so we use a hybrid of an axe and a knife to cut them down.
We cut some banana leaves as well and left them on the spot. One or two days later they get picked up and used to wrap food in them.
The banana trees are often inhabited by large red ants. Their bite hurts quite a bit. In others live wasps who might think the banana buds are theirs. They're very fast to attack but as soon as we fled they retreated as well. But by then we had already learned and were watchful. A few trees before we weren't expecting an attack. The pain of the sting eased up after about 30 mins. ;)
The dog is called Senta, my brother in law painted blue eyebrows on her.
