Bird Photography: Male Passerina ciris, "Painted Bunting"

in #colourfulphotography6 years ago (edited)

This bird was a little difficult to get a good shot of at first but with a little luck and even more patience (that did eventually pay off), I got these wonderful shots.
Enjoy!

I think that is the most colorful bird I've ever seen. Is it real? Then again, the name suggests that it is. So I'll go with that as a yes. Great photos. I've found birds to be difficult, they seldom stand still for long. Then again, when they do, the cat is a large threat, so keep movin', bird, keep movin. Thanks for showing me a classic bird I've never seen. Wonder if they are up in our neck of the woods? Cheers

Thank you! Yes it is VERY colorful (and real lol). You're welcome, these birds are mainly in the S/E U.S. plus East coast during their breeding season and down into mexico for the winter. So I'm not totally surprised you haven't seen any up there near you. I've only recently discovered the males are the same color (green) as the female when they are young(1-2 yrs old), then molt, change color and only live to be about 5 years old with a max of around 10. I believe I recently got a picture of an adolescent male because it looks Exactly like the female, only there is a blue spot appearing behind one of his eyes. They are very shy and it has taken a couple months now with the feeder to get the males to "come out of the woods" as they say. Thanks again for stopping by and commenting!

Hello @jschindler

You delegated to @super8ballclub for verification but we couldn't find your verification post. Please tell me your game tracking name so that I could verify you.

No worries, I have not created an account, or verification post yet. I wanted to delegate the 25 SP mainly because I support your project and the great idea. I would have delegated more but then I would lose my voting bar (< 500SP) so this is the most I could do. I'm also a Billiards fan as well but sadly I have not spent much time playing electronic games of any kind in the past 10 years. This could change in the future. :)

Thanks for reaching out though! If/when I create an account I'll get in touch!

Thank you very much for supporting the project. I'm just loving the way you supported us. This delegation means so much to us since it's coming with love.

Looking forward to having you as one of the gamers in our club soon.

The female doesn't have any of the bright colors like the mature male one does.
