Passion Flowers

Did you know that the passion flower is full of medicinal benefits?

These flowers are believed to have been discovered in Peru by Spanish explorers in the 1600s who thought they symbolized Christ's passion and his approval of their exploratory efforts.

The above ground parts of this plant have been used medicinally to treat ailments such as insomnia, anxiety, gastrointestinal issues and even narcotic withdrawl. It is also used to ease symptoms of asthma, seizures, heart palpitations, ADHD, high blood pressure and even fibromyalgia.

It can even to be applied to the skin directly to treat hemorrhoids, inflammation and also burns.

The extract of the passion flower is also used for flavoring in food and drink. Prior to the 1980s, the natural healing properties of this plant were even approved for use as an over-the-counter sleep-aid and sedative in the United States up until 1978 when it was removed from the shelves because it's effectiveness and safety had yet to be scientifically proven.

My husband and I took photos of this beautiful flower in North Carolina right before we were engaged. We were fascinated by it but didn't know what it was. Fast forward a few years and a friend of ours was enthusiastically talking about transplanting passion fruit to his garden - we were very surprised to see this same flower on the new little vine. And we had found it growing wild all over the little park we had taken a walk through in NC!

very cool, I've been thinking about putting some in my backyard as well : )

Some more things I discovered about passion flower, good photos. Resteemed.

awesome @pf-coin, thanks for the support and happy I could share some of the natural healing properties of this beautiful flower!

given it's color frequency and it's extreme complexity it's clear to me this is not just an ordinary flower. I would be interested in knowing how it is prepared for consumption. Thanks

I've got photos lined up for a post on these too! LOL

In other news:

@liberty-minded – Papa brought you something back from Mexico!

That first image is very nice! What kind of flower is that? That's one interesting flower. It looks like it's got a mane! Very nicely done.

appreciate it @fotosdenada, it is a passion flower

That is goo to know! And to be honest, I may never seen this details of the passion flower in my life. Super stills.

Your photo work here is stunning. (I may be especially partial to things in this hue.)

I enjoy the frequency of the color purple. I was invoking the violet flame last night in my prayerwork and wish I'd have had your photos in my face for the meditation. (I may pop this open next time I do this meditation.)

Beautiful work. Happy to upvote and follow for me!

<3 & Cheers from a noob.
