GREAT ARTICLE ON HOW TO STYLE UP YOUR COFFEE TABLE
According to Wikipedia, “A coffee table is a style of long, low table which is designed to be placed in front of (or next to) a sofa or upholstered chairs to support beverages (hence the name), magazines, books (especially large, illustrated coffee table books), decorative objects, and other small items to be used while sitting, such as beverage coasters. In some situations, such as during a party, plates of food may be placed on the table”
I think this definition captures the whole idea of the functionality of a coffee table. It is however dependent on ones personality that helps to create an outstanding centre piece in the living room. Coffee tables still have a great way of speaking volume at home. When I look at an empty coffee table a lot of decoration activity keeps coming to my mind. And trust me; there are a lot of smart ways to make them attractive. Apart from the fact that it can be a conversation starter. It can well speak the personality of the house owner in diverse ways. We will be sharing with you some amazing tips to create your own style and aura using this subtle furniture.
SIMPLICITY
Your coffee table can be kept very clear and free of varieties to enable your kids and visitors use them easily if it’s not that big. Just a single flower vase will do. Just to give your home a little bit of breathing space. In this case, place a fanciful rug underneath. The rug can have the same colour with the flower vase on your coffee table.
THE FOUR CORNER APPROACH
A lot of times you might want to display several items on the table both decorative and organic materials. These materials can be displayed on each corner of the table and styled differently but you must ensure that the visual weight is roughly the same i.e. objects are not extremely higher than the others. This approach usually makes the whole table balanced but every area looks attractive. You can also add a little piece of greenery at the centre to ensure balance.
USE OF DECORATIVE TRAY.
I have noticed Nigerian Homes are not so much in love with this concept but I find it so much amazing if carefully designed.Mostly called contained grouping. In the tray collection, dissimilar items are placed inside, items like books, greenery, tall accent pieces are best collections mostly placed.
SPICE IT UP
This idea is pretty cool for a greenery personality. Your centre piece will have variety of heights, texture and shapes placed on the display and then you have a tall flower vase, short sculptor, books. Also, ceramics and soft elements like plants, flowers and other organic materials will be a great deal. This creates a style, though uneven but it adds a decorative theme to your living room
LONG AND LINEAR.
This approach is quite fantastic for a long rectangular table. Objects can be styled by using vary similar elements repeatedly, especially if they have same length at the extreme edge of the table. In this books can be placed with small flower vase of different shades and sizes.
THE CENTRE OF ATTENTION
From the whole approaches this is more of creating a personality with just one element. This element can be a big flower vase, greenery then supported with a very fat other elements like books. Here the centre of attention is the big element to create a statement piece.
The reason for this is to enable your living room make a huge statement. It can also be a conversation starter for your guest. This big element can be something from your vacation, a special occasion but not necessarily a flower.
