NZ Gymnastics Nationals 2017 我女兒參加新西蘭體操全國賽

Last month I drove 5 hours to the top of the South Island of New Zealand to a lovely city called Nelson with my daughter, Alyssa. Nelson is probably in the top 15 biggest cities in the country. This year the national competition for gymnastics took place there. Alyssa is 9 years old and she hopes to be a future Olympian. Her mother is from Taiwan and I'm from New Zealand. She had made the Canterbury team from her performances this year and had hopes of getting some medals.
This competition took place over 4 days. We arrived Wednesday and she went off to Training while I found my accommodation. It was a lovely house overlooking the water and I had 2 rooms and a bathroom/shower to myself.
Thursday was the first day of competition. Step 7 which is the grade Alyssa is in was up first. This day was all about the combined score from the 4 apparatuses which are beam, bars, floor and vault.
Alyssa scored her best score on beam all season and also got the highest score on floor which meant that she ended up with the top all around score so she won the grade for the country. Here's those two routines:
We'd hoped for a good showing but to win the all around was amazing for her. Also the Canterbury team got the top overall score so won the teams competition so she ended up with 2 gold medals. They also awarded a trophy for the highest overall score in her grade. It's split into under 13s and over 13s and her score was the highest out of all of those competing from the whole country.
Friday was a day off and my birthday so while she spent the day in the dorms with her friends, I was able to enjoy a day to myself and relax. I watched "Before the Flood" in the day (Leonardo Di Caprio presented documentary about climate change) and Bladerunner 2049 at night.
Saturday was the individual apparatus finals. The top 8 from each event were allowed to compete for individual medals. Alyssa had qualified for 3 out of 4 events (not vault). She managed to win the floor and although her beam routine was not as good as 2 days earlier, she still finished on top earning herself another 2 gold medals.
She's the smallest one in this picture:

We all couldn't be happier with her first national competition and hope to have a lot of great stories to tell in the future :)
