When a group of Nobel Prize Winners Predicts 'Doomsday'
Around 50 Nobel Prize winners have predicted the 10 biggest threats to mankind.
In a survey, the intelligent people expressed their fear that nuclear war, environmental disaster, and even Facebook would pose a risk to the future of mankind.
The Times Higher Education recently asked smart people about "the greatest threat to mankind".
The answering experts are known as award winners and represent a quarter of Nobel Prize winners in physics, chemistry, physiology, medicine, and economics. They are also regarded as the smartest people in the world.
More than a third (34 percent) say that population increases or environmental degradation represent the greatest apocalyptic risk.
In second place is a nuclear war, then there is a thrashing disease, and drug-resistant insects.
Artificial intelligence is also highlighted as a risk, as well as selfishness, inequality, terrorism, and even Donald Trump.
Facebook and drugs are also called threats, entering the top 10 after they are identified by one of the respondents.
"Humans are very busy with the biggest climate experiments since the ice age," said John Mather, a senior cosmologist at NASA, told Times Higher Education, who conducted the survey.
With tensions between nuclear North Korea and the United States, it is not surprising that 23 percent say that nuclear war can cause doomsday.
A smart man from Israel is very worried about the "warm dictatorship." While the smart Germans are nervous about the "populist regime that possesses nuclear weapons."
Nothing wrong, the two men, specifically pointed to the figure of Donald Trump.
"I do not think science can do much for him," one of the respondents said.
Nevertheless, some scientists believe we can survive and even further develop after the devastation.
"The human species is a successful figure that makes the world a better place," said one other.
Even if we destroy the world and cause mass extinctions that make it uninhabitable, it believes that humans can survive by flying into space.
"The main insurance scheme is to make people into multiplanet species," says an astrologer.
"And science certainly has a big part to it."
Elon Musk is one of the many people who have thought of that idea.
Musk previously claimed that Mars had a planetary layer. He also suggested that a nuclear bomb dropped on its surface to heat up its atmosphere to make it suitable for human colonization.
