Well, of course, science has come a long way since Leibniz's day, and his idea of monads is actually analogous (roughly) to atoms. Of course, we haven't encountered any evidence that I know of that atoms contain the genetic code of the universe, but I wouldn't necessarily rule that out. There is still a lot we don't know.

That being said, CERN researchers have confirmed the existence of many subatomic particles. They aren't usually stable, and when they are, they usually exist in an ambiguous state, such that they can be viewed as both energy and matter, but they do exist.
