View from Wettsteinbrücke (Wettstein bridge), overlooking the city of Basel.

Upstream view. The prominent high-rise building is the Roche Tower, Building 1 (completed in 2015). At 178 m (584 ft), it is the tallest building in Switzerland. Construction on a second, even higher tower, Building 2, is in progress.

Downstream view. Looking towards the city center. The Basel Minster (completed in 1500) lays on the southern side of the river.

In order to cross the river, you can either use one of the city’s five bridges, or, as a romantic alternative, use the service of the “Fährimaa” (“ferry man”) by boarding one of the four Rhine ferries.
