The City In The Wild
Unimaginably Nairobi city, the capital of Kenya is the only city in the world set within the environs of a Game park. No where else in the world will you find herds of Giraffes, prides of lions and rhino families, living in the wild just 15 minutes from a major capital city. The wild animals graze and hunt with the city's infrastructure in the background. It is such an unnatural mix that it gives unimaginable photo moments. The Nairobi National Park was the country's first park from the middle of the last century.
The park covers an area of about 117 kilometers squared full of open grasslands. To the west there is a dry forest and a permanent river. To the south you have a river and rain forest. The parks natural landscape is teeming with stretches of broken bush country and deep rocky valleys and gorges with scrub and long grass.Mans impact is limited in the parks biodiversity only if it contributes to the flora and fauna.
The is an animal orphanage within the National park run by the Wildlife services of Kenya. This orphanage is a sanctuary for young animals that have lost their mothers at the hands of poachers. They are looked after here and reintegrated into the wild in the adjacent park.
The park does not have any hotels within, due to its proximity to the city which is full of hotels of any class.
In all the rugged terrain the view of the city is always in the horizon giving you the satisfaction that you will be rested in the comfort of civilisation at the end of the day.
