NO ROOM IN THE INN... A Tragedy?
There was a time, when I was younger, when I used to think that the fact that there was no room in the inn for Jesus to be born was a tragedy.
Now, I realize that there is a much larger tragedy.
The events surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ were all completely orchestrated by God. Jesus could have been born in any inn, or castle or palace that existed at the time. It was really humbling enough for God to take on flesh, much less to do so in a barnyard scene surrounded by animals and the filth that comes with them.
Yet, this is exactly what God chose for the birth of Jesus Christ.
The fact that there was no room in the inn is not the real tragedy, it's the fact that most people have no room in their lives for Jesus Christ.
I mean, God created them and wrote His moral law on their consciences, yet they reject Him and His ways, and give themselves over to sin. Let's face it, we all did!
Still, God loves us all enough to send His Son Jesus Christ down here to die in our place to pay for our sins as our substitute so that He can find us not guilty and pardon us, allowing us to escape from the eternal future of hell and instead go to heaven, and most people reject the offer!!!
They choose to have no room for Jesus... and that is the true tragedy of the Christmas story.
It's not the manger birth, or even the crucifixion, that should be seen as a tragedy; it's the rebellion and rejection that mankind has for his Creator, even though God is willing to forgive us.
